No that's a good analysis. Say both teams face each other in the 2nd round, who will OS pitch and what's his strengths and weaknesses? We are not quite sure who will get Saturday's start at this point. But whoever pitches will throw strikes early in the count, or they will only face a couple of batters.

No that's a good analysis. Say both teams face each other in the 2nd round, who will OS pitch and what's his strengths and weaknesses? Possibly Drew Rasmussen - drafted today 1st round by TB, weakness, still coming back from T J surgery. Otherwise started pitching late April, 21 innings, .83 era, plus plus fastball, plus 3 other pitches, perfect game against Washington State his freshman year. Possibly Bryce Fehmel- frosh all American last year, went through stretch with bum arm late this season but just pitched full game against Vanderbilt, holding them to 1 earned run. If he leaves the ball up, has trouble. Possibly Luke Heimlich, #1 era in the nation, just superior control of 4 pitches. Only weakness this year lack of run support sometimes. OSU had best era in nation by over a full run a game.

Some people want to talk about SOS for OSUs era. But even if you take only OSUs era vs top 100 rpi teams it is still lower than anyone else in the country.
Vanderbilt was 8th in the sec but the 5th place team had nearly the same record.
No sec team had as much success vs Wright and Raby this season as OSU. Wright had a 2.2 era vs sec teams and 1.03 era vs his last 7 sec opponants. Raby had a 2.58 era vs sec teams. No sec team earned more runs than OSU vs either pitcher.
Only one sec team was able to beat both pitchers in a weekend series.
OSUs rpi vs top 100 rpi teams is better tgan Lsu's era vs teams with 100 rpi or higher.
Mississippi state lost to one of the bottom pac 12 teams. That bottom pac 12 team held them to less runs than lsu did.

while the rpi is impressive you've only played 12 games against top 50 teams while LSU has played 41 games. Quite a big difference. I know OSU can't control how their conference performs each year. It will be interesting to see how they do against the better teams in the country. And Vanderbilt was 11-12 against top 50 rpi. Still you kicked their ass.

Pitching depth is our strength. OSU only has 2 guys with an era over 3.00 on the roster. Also, rbi's are produced all through the lineup. Seven of the nine starters have 29 or more. The other two have 17 and 18. Team obp is .388, obps is .800. We've drawn 132 more walks than our opponnents this year. We run the bases really well, but don't steal a ton, and we play good defense, but not magical. Bottom line, well have incredible pitching, and we get a lot of runners on base. Constant pressure.

We swept Auburn FWIW We had 7 conference series wins: Auburn, MSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Ole Miss, Bama and South Carolina. Four of our 7 series wins did not make the tournament. What point are you exactly trying to make here? 7 of OSU's 10 series wins didn't make the tournament FYI.

Baseball is a game of the here and now... today. All the stats... top 50, rpi, sos, era... mean zero when two teams actually meet. Just too many variables in baseball. Fans love stats to justify their teams success or failure, but each game (especially vs new opponents in a new season) is a new event influenced little by past data.
OSU would (is seen by most on this board) be seen as the fav in Omaha mainly because of two sets of said data... 54-4 and ERA. However, if Luke is not pitching I do not see OSU as the fav. OSU would be down to (1) full-time starter, although undefeated with a great season. Another starter who was benched but showed how effective he can be with his Supers performance. However, is not a stopper whose been real consistent this season. #3 will be challenged to go 5+ innings in the heat and humidity, is coming off TJ and a contusion on his throwing arm/ was doubtful he could go in game 3 of Supers. Plus his ability to bounce back is greatly limited if extra games played in the losers bracket.
The BP could be a strength but basically got no work and so basically had no experience against elite teams in BIG game atmosphere, let alone their 1st post season pitch being in the CWS. They are an unknown in the postseason to this point.
OSU may piece together some great performances out of the BP, but Luke helped make this team what it is. He has 20% of the Ws... he's your dominate Friday night guy... he pitched a large chunk of innings. There is no way you can legitimize saying the BP can duplicate that under these conditions.
If any other team came into the CWS with this sort of "loss" to their roster we'd be salivating on our good fortune. I'm guessing our bracket feels the same. Full of respect for what we've accomplished, but not feeling sorry they're getting a less than full strength OSU. Its baseball, it happens.
This team will fight to the end, but it will take something even more special than 54-4 to win this thing in this circumstance especially facing it so late in the season with no time to adapt. Can they? Yep. Will they? Let's play.
But, I'm hoping to never see the typical "ifs, could have, should have" posts on this board if a trophy not earned. It's baseball and life, ya never know. A great record gets to the postseason it doesn't assure successes once there. But, bemoaning "circumstance" if things don't go your way takes away from what a, fantastic ride it's been.
Go Beavs

Has the pitching coach been at OSU a while? Has the pitching talent been cultivated there or your coach has a good eye for pitchers? I'd have to think the pitching coach will have a lot of opportunities for a head coaching position next year.

I agree that's a tough pill to swallow with your Friday night starter. Your BP will get tested. Guess will see how they perform.

I'd have to think the pitching coach will have a lot of opportunities for a head coaching position next year. Coach Yeskie has been at OSU since 2009. OSU has been stellar at recruiting top notch pitching, and Yeskie has been a big part of that. Kids coming out of high school know that they will get the best coaching, and he gets the credit for taking guys with great stuff and turning them into great pitchers. And yes, we are concerned that he's going to get a lot of attention from other schools, but given that he coached the 2013/14 staff that got us to our last Series and to a #1 ranking, that has probably been going on for a long time.

When we played many of the Pac-12 teams, they were in the top 50 at the time, but for some reason getting swept by the Beavs rocked them a bit and a few never quite recovered.
