My thoughts/feelings as I see each of our normal starters approach the plate, especially in critical situations:
Kwan - Hot bat, time for a base runner! Madrigal - Is this officially a slump yet? (minus the bunts). Come on buddy, snap out of it. We need you... Anderson - The rock of the lineup. I just feel comfortable whenever Jack's at the plate, like everything's going to be OK, ya know? Gretler - Hot bat, time to score some runs! Harrison - Not confident at all (even with that great HR). I'm usually expecting a strikeout, probably chasing a high pitch. Take note of how many high pitches are thrown his way, and he still can't lay off 'em. C'mon KJ, learn some patience... Larnach - Not real confident if there's lots of movement on the pitches. Has power in spades, but doesn't seem to see the ball that well sometimes. Grenier - Consistently inconsistent. Never know what you're gonna get. I generally have a good feeling, but I'm not surprised when it doesn't go well. Rutchsman - Generally positive feeling as he's come on later in the year, but I still don't know what kind of at-bat I'm going to get with Adley. I actually feel better when there's a bit of a pressure situation... Donahue/Atwood/Cary/Jones/whoever - Our one real hole in the lineup. Anything we get here is a bonus. I'm most pessimistic if it's Donahue at the plate. Dude just looks overmatched this year...

I must disagree with your assessment of Larnach.
His last twelve games:
2-4 2-3, HR, 2 RBI 2-4, 2B 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI 2-3, RBI 0-2, RBI 2-3, HR, 3 RBI 1-3, 2 RBI 1-3, 2B, RBI 2-5, 2B, RBI 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI 1-4, RBI
That's 18-42 .429, 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 16 RBI
I hope he breaks out of his slump!

It must be killing Coach - Larnach is a terror at the plate, and terrible at baserunning. Fortunately for him no coach sits a guy down who is hitting over 400, but also fortunate for Larnach because his backside is probably a bit tender from getting worked over every time he walks off the field after making an out on the basepaths, so sitting might be a bit difficult

Thanks for the insight. Unfortunately I didn't see much of the Abalene Christian games, and only saw the first regional game and just bits of the other two. So I obviously need to update my expectations of young Trevor. Kind of why I started this thread, to see if I'm off base on anybody...

Madrigal has more passion and energy than 98% of the ballplayers at levels ranging from T-ball to HOF MLB-ers. No "snapping out" required.

Madrigal is what he is. Snap out of it? He's got a bum hand. We are lucky he is on the field at all. Would not surprise be to see it come out after the season that he has a busted hand but can play as pain allows. Rutschman after a bad start he is figuring things out. He was hitting in one stretch about .300. He's fine. What's with the negative waves Moriarty? 52-4 is killing you? Not everybody can hit .350

Not everybody can hit .350 If Kwan can keep up his production, then Nick can still be a very valuable guy in the 2 hole. He's our best bunter and will turn most sac bunts into base hits because of his speed. If corner infielders start creeping in then I bet he starts slapping the ball by them. As long as guys like Harrison, Larnach, Gretler, and Rutschman can keep slugging behind him then we won't miss Nick's slugging ability.

Larnach's only base running problem is when and how to get to 3rd base.
He has the others covered, no problem.

He can handle the bat and he's hurting.

Larnach's only base running problem is when and how to get to 3rd base. He has the others covered, no problem. Larnach should follow this rule: If you can't make it to the base standing up, don't go for it.

I generally think about how difficult this lineup must be to face. They can beat you 100 ways.
Madrigal- The confidence in his approach and attention to detail. Kwan-Energy, Passion and improving every week. Anderson- Mr Execution. Larnach- Watch him continue to become more comfortable up there as the season has progressed. Harrison-. Bat speed. God given ability. Gretler-. The dramatic improvement at the plate since he has been here. Hard work pays off. Rutchsman- Mr. Clutch. Never questions balls and strikes while at plate. Grenier- The guy who will make the swing that wins the whole thing for us. Only question is where and when. Cary- Complete team player. Smacking the ball right now.

Just a couple of thoughts. Nick obviously is not the Nick of Mid Season. KJ is totally unpredictable. His first year he just walked up the Plate and Hit the Ball. Now? Gretler has become a good hitter. Larnach maybe the best hitter we have right now. Gren-yer is a mystery, but really tough. Anderson is going to try to hit the Ball even if he has to use a Tennis Racket. Cary likely just needs playing time. That guy is a serious Centerfielder! The hard thing to stomach is anyone Striking Out with Runners on! We hit this weekend, we win!

You must be forgetting that KJ hit a whopping .239 and .236 in conference play his first two years at OSU. This year he hit .333. KJ is a much improved hitter and is far from unpredictable as you claimed.

Somewhere along the way, I deemed him as "our next Conforto", and that's an incredibly ridiculous, high bar that I set in my own mind. I do think he's a much more complete hitter now - still gets a little big with his swing, but he's not trying to hit everything 450 feet these days.
