Of the teams that the Pac 12 could realistically get, I begrudgingly admit that Memphis makes a lot of sense given their basketball and football success of late and overall trajectory (other than that travel thing). I feel like adding them to the Pac 12 would boost both sports for the conference on the national landscape. (but what do I know?)

Would be great. They participate in all the major sports, largish market, would make us a dynamite basketball league. Idk if we ever win another basketball game in conference but ill take the shares lol

twitter.com/i/web/status/1841490803912310840I think I prefer it when the Pac confuses all the "experts" about what's going on, because it means we're keeping things truly secret and when it gets quiet we know real work is being done. Unlike our last commissioner.

I still prefer Texas State or even New Mexico to Memphis, stay as western as possible... Of course I totally under stand if the TV execs say 20 mil per team with Memphis vs 15 mil per team with Texas State.... I add.... BOTH

I would highly doubt we'd take JUST Memphis. The travel for Memphis would be brutal.
My guess is Memphis, Tulane, and Texas St. Although I don't know how you get an Eastern pod out of that. You dump UTSA to save buyout money, go with the lesser cost TXST and then increase the buyout support to Memphis.
Although after suffering the last couple of days reading Memphis message boards, ugh...I don't know about adding their fans. They also need to either show they can roll the dice with the rest of us or go sit it out on the sidelines. They want to have this be a zero-risk effort on their part, with everyone else doing the heavy lifting.

Spitballing here, but Memphis + 1 more for football (Tulane/UTSA/Texas St) then what if you approached someone like Creighton/Wichita State as well for basketball/baseball/other sports? More hoops depth, more baseball teams…
Much rather do that than GCU.

I fully acknowledge of all the available G5 schools, Memphis is probably the best we can get.
I don't want them because they are acting a little too big for their britches right now. In my opinion. They are a good get, but not a VITAL get. I think we are net equal with a Texas State, North Texas pair or so, honestly, that would likely be cheaper, and closer.
Memphis is strong in basketball and decent in football. it is a good win-win. but. yeah. I really don't like the vibes they are putting off right now.

When I was a kid and learning all the teams, they were Memphis State. They would have to go back and claim the "state."
