Memphis State became the University of Memphis in 1994. It was basically a marketing gimmick to try and make the school seem better-endowed and better academically. I tried that renaming gimmick in college but the girls weren't impressed. beav93 didn't work?

You should see some of the Beaver fans on social media. Woof. I belong to several Beav groups on FB, which is the only social media platform I belong to of that kind........I am simply amazed with some the stuff I see whenever I peruse those pages. For example, someone posted a list of schools that "might be available" for us to add from Texas. They included TCU, SMU, and Houston.... 🙄 I imagine we belong to some of the same FB groups - and - YES- there are some real asshats on those who make us look bad.

I'm not advocating for Memphis over Texas State or vice versa, but I don't understand the Memphis is too far away argument, so we should take TSU or even one of the New Mexico teams? Flight time from Eugene is like 10 min longer to Memphis then Austin would be. Maybe San Antonio would be faster to TSU, I'm not sure Austin Bergstrom international airport to Texas State is only 15 minutes longer than the commute from Memphis to its own airport. It's also much easier to get in and out of and they are going to be pouring a significant amount of money into the Austin airport for expansion in the coming years. South Memphis where the airport is....well... be safe friends.
