I am a little surprised that Colorado State is a part of this and not UNLV. I would take UNLV over CSU for sure. You get that Las Vegas footprint and UNLV looks very serious about building a legit football program. Interesting that this is six total teams. It would seem as if they feel this will be a potential landing spot for some of the ACC teams or a backfill is still a possibility down the road. Maybe they're just getting ready to make that move. Probably is a rebuild, though.

The Big 12 was always a fantasy. As many times as they said no to us/WSU, people still would not believe them. Supposedly we got another "hard no" last week, but obviously this move has been in the works for quite some time. Believe them now. Surprised that either UNLV, Wyoming or SJSU isn't part of this. Perhaps two more will have to buy their way in. I can't imagine anyone wanting to be left behind. Anyway, positive movement. Apparently so was a full merger with the MWC or joining the MWC. Huh. Wyoming and San Jose State were never going to be a part of a Pac-12 rebuild. Looks like I was a lot closer to being right than the Big 12 fantasists, and I always advocated a reverse merger, not us joining the MWC. And we're not done yet. Might be some more MWC teams in the pipeline to reach 8 or 10. Wy guess is any of the other seven MWC teams who can finance their own buyout might have a fighting chance. And Wyoming is one of the few schools with the resources to do that. I also think the CW really likes what it has seen so far and is willing to invest even more money to become a player in the college football TV world.

My guess is that there are other MWC teams involved?? Maybe these (4) have gone thru the administrative pieces and have approval. Others still in process? I'm sure if these (4) are indeed secured others are going to want in! I could see UNLV and Utah State very much wanting in. UNLV is coming on as a team, it's been a while since Utah State has strung together a few good years I think.

If we are truly going to try and rebuild the PAC I don’t feel good about it. Adding a bunch of G5 MWC schools won’t make us a power conference and it wall all but hinder recruiting efforts in every sport especially football/baseball. Budgets will be cut. This doesn’t move the needle at all and if this is what the leadership has come to after all this time I’m pretty disappointed. There are no P4 schools to "rebuild with." Where did I say there were any? Lol

CSU's invested quite a bit into their programs of late (new stadium is very nice even though my experience in it was awful that's to GA). They haven't won but I do think Norvell is a good coach.

This supposed deal has a 3rd party. Most likely a media partner(s). The revenue and budgets will depend on the media deal driving this. As without a media deal these (4) aren't just up and jumping ship. I’m not saying I know anything. But it’s fairly simple to deduce that without any big name brands this will be a step down as a conference. I will definitely be interested to see what the proposed economics of the deal are.

The MWC reverse merger stuff was never going to happen. And yeah, they aren't done yet because there will be some P4 teams that will likely be available. If not, they will probably look at schools in Texas and maybe Tulane. Wyoming and San Jose State will not be added. If they add another MWC team it should be UNLV.

Yeah, true. But to me CSU is by far the weakest of the four and IMO behind UNLV at this point.

Think of it this way... the old Pac12 isn't coming back. "This" is a huge step up from independence and no conference! I'll guess it's not $30 mil+ per, but if it includes escalation streaming clauses it could be bigger. This conference will have a stranglehold on West Coast inventory

LOL yourself. A reverse merger is the exact same thing as a Pac-12 rebuild. Even by adding even one MWC program I was closer than you and your Big 12 fantasyfest, which didn't include any members of the MWC. And we added four, with more possibly to come. Whatever. Glad we're moving forward.

Glad we're moving forward. Yeah, it's absolutely not the same at all. The Pac-12 is taking a few of the top programs from the MWC. It is not merging with the entirety of the MWC as the new Pac-12. Absolutely two different scenarios. A Pac-12 rebuild was always going to include some MWC teams. That's been obvious from the beginning. I never said that the Pac-2 teams were going to join the Big 12. I just wanted it to happen. No more a fantasyfest than your dream of a reverse merger that would include all of the MWC teams.

I'd think any other MWC program that pays for its own buyout, and maybe throws in an extra $5-10 million or so, would be viewed favorably for membership.
UNLV could do it if it can raise some money from the hotel/casino owners. Wyoming's Legislative Stabilization Reserve Account, more commonly known as the "rainy day" fund, has been used for various appropriations but has grown to a current balance of approximately $2 billion. It could be tapped. CSU would probably like to see the rivalry maintained and its travel costs reduced.

Hopefully baseball has other plans. My guess is that baseball will try to stay independent as long as it works. But if Cal and Stanford wind up in the fold, who knows?
