Start the list as our seven players selected in the MLB Draft sign professional contracts with their signing bonus amount if available. The only first round pick to sign through 7/18 is Chase Burns, the RHP from Wake Forest. He was taken right after Bazzana at #2. He signed with the Reds for $9,250,000 which was $535,000 below slot.

Appears Travis signed for $8.95m, slot was $10.57m... $1.62 mil below slot and $300k below Burns. As was told, it was one of the major keys to select Travis 1/1... negotiations were going to be much easier than for Condon and was willing to sign below slot. Great for Travis... $8.95m is plenty and he begins in the good graces with the "bosses"!
* as of this morning Holmes is not showing as signed on the MLB tracker??
Others thru Rd3: #16 overall Morlando with Marlins for $3.40m... slot $4.70m #32 overall O'Ferrall with Orioles for $2.70m... slot $2.84m #45 overall Cortez with Angels for $1.60m... slot $2.07m #58 overall Pitre (UK) with Tampa for 1.52m... slot $1.53m #62 overall Holton with Braves for $1.35m... slot $1.39m #99 overall Sinnard with Braves for $735.3k... slot $737.8k
Under slot seems to be the going rate to be able to pony up for the lower rounds and FAs. I saw... - the Braves signed their 6th Rd pick, Ethan Bagwell for $510k over his $312k slot value; - The Angels signed their 5th Rd HS pick to $1.25m, $745k over

Spotrak shows Holmes signing Baseball America's Carlos Collazo is reporting that Bridger Holmes signed for $215,000. Carlos also reported that Travis Bazzana signed for $8,950,000. Baseball America's official list lists Holmes as having signed but does not include Bazzana yet.

I appreciate that Travis took less to play for a good organization.

I appreciate that Travis took less to play for a good organization. It probably was one of the reasons that he was drafted 1-1. Bazzana was always going to be pretty signable.

It is not unusual for a 1-1 draft pick to sign below slot. Only generational players like Adley Rutschman can command full slot money. The Guardians had the largest pool money in the history of MLB this draft, a figure just north of $18 mil. They had a plan to focus on young arms and they did that. Bazz took a small haircut, - a little over 10% which probably was appreciated because the Guardians drafted four top spendy prep pitchers on day 2 of the draft. Their second pick was Catcher Jacob Cozart (6-3, 210), a LH bat that can rake from North Carolina State that many scouts considered a first round talent and a full slot signing.
All four pitchers were anticipated to be above slot signings because of their college coommittments. The four were all ranked Top-110 preps with BA.
RHP Chase Mobely (6-6, 210) A Florida State commit that touches 99 mph. RHP Cameron Sullivan (6-2, 200) A Notre Dame commit that camps on a mid 90's heater. RHP Joey Okie (6-3, 205) An Iowa commit that thows 94-96 consistently. RHP Braylon Doughty (6-1, 195) An Oklahoma State commit that registers 96 mph.
Cleveland spent a lot of money on the best player in college baseball and a can't miss catcher while stocking up their Minor League system with pricey prep pitchers that bring a ton of "whiff" to the organization.

Travis was amenable to his deal, but it was over a 15% below slot value. Below slot for 1/1 happens, 15% below isn't typical.
Clubs and their valuations can be weird as some #2 on down get over slot. But, helping sign other players with your slot $ is a great look to the front office.

There was some speculation that if Travis and his Agent (Chase Brewer and Excel Sports Management) had a drawn a hard line in the sand, Cleveland would turn to JJ Wetherholt who had to come at a steep discount because of his medical issue. Wetherholt has some risk attached because of a recurring hamstring issue that causes him to miss long stretches of games (he fell to the Cardinals at 1-7 in the draft). I questioned that because I don't think Cleveland ever viewed Wetherholt as a comparable talent to Bazz.
The fact that two the Guardians top 7 Minor League prospects are second baseman, indicated a strong desire to draft Travis. The two Dominican prospects are 22 and both playing at AAA Columbus in the Cleveland system - Juan Brito nand Angel Martinez (plays both 2B and SS).
It would have been interesting to see had Scott Boros been representing Travis.

But, helping sign other players with your slot $ is a great look to the front office. Henry Davis signed for 23% below in 2021. I think that the Guardians probably picked the comparable player that agreed to sign for the lowest amount and that was Bazzana. I think that, if Bazzana had played hardball, he probably would not have gone 1-1.

Do MLB contracts have incentives and such like NFL? Usually, rookie contracts do not, like the NFL. You can see it in high-end UDFA contracts, but it is rare.
