The Pac-12 does not have autonomous status because it's no longer really a conference. It has to add a minimum of six schools to return to conference status. Then it would either regain autonomous status or not. Mike Riley is on the CFP committee and OSU and WSU still have representation and voting rights on the DI council and the football oversight committee. BTW, the gymnastics program and I think the wrestling programs are in talks with the Big 12 to join it. Last I checked the Big 12 isn't a G5 conference. OSU and WSU only went ahead with the scheduling agreements with the MWC and WCC because those conferences are on the West Coast and it's much more difficult to schedule as an independent. South Dakota State, Cal Baptist, Utah Valley University, and Wyoming all wrestle in the Big 12. It is a mishmash of Big and very small FCS schools. Some don't even sponsor football. Not really my point. Maybe read rgeorge's comment for context. The Big-12 is not G5, even if some of teams in some sports are from different levels

There is no G5 in college wrestling. the football terms simply don't apply. I get your point but many olympic sports don't fit that mold of P4/G5

An eye opening analysis: "“Here’s what people have to get in their heads: The Power Five schools are not like everybody else,” Kessler said. “The reason we get tied in knots is because we conflate those schools who have developed these gigantic independent commercial businesses with the schools who are still just educational institutions with extracurricular activities.” Many of those in the power conferences generate millions from their football and men’s basketball programs. The average power conference athletic budget is around $130-$150 million. Budgets of those in Division I’s bottom 28 conferences are as low as one-tenth of that figure." sports.yahoo.com/with-the-future-of-college-sports-uncertain-one-thing-is-clear-an-official-and-permanent-split-of-ncaa-division-i-is-here-123034315.htmlI think of OSU as an educational institution, for the record.....though not just that. Go Beavers!

I do know that OSU gymnastics have reportedly been in talks with the Big-12 and that's definitely P4 level.

"Only"... because those were the only options! FFS fugure it out. What is the only avenue for OSU to access the CFP? Yep G5. Henry... should have followed your lead on these topics. Incorrect, OSU’s only access to the cfp this year is finishing in the top 12 cfp rankings, period. Only the top ranked G5 conference champion gets into the cfp, and OSU does not belong to an eligible G5 conference, hence we cannot be a g5 conference champion. I have repeated this often, yet most still don’t seem to understand.

I have repeated this often, yet most still don’t seem to understand. It is the top 4 rated conference champs + the next 8 highest ranked teams. OSU's only avenue is thru the G5 as that is who we play the majority of our games. Never stated the G5 has an auto berth as most know the G5 is no longer guaranteed a spot in the new/current structure. That said, OSU has zero chance to be in the Top 12 unless they go 12-0. And, without a conference and conference championship game maybe a 2-5% chance, if that. But, the CFP is not the important issue, it is access to CFP $ which will soon disappear and why OSU should lead the charge to a separate system and payout structure that could be implemented using the current bowl structure and involve those teams not buying in to the NIL super team concept. Possibility? Who knows. But, as probable as OSU becoming a viable P4 conference member in terms of consistent successes and keeping up with the Jones'. Or the Pac12 being rebuilt with G5 teams + Furd and Cal and suddenly being consider a Power conference.

Again, OSU is not a current member of a G5 conference or a power conference. As far as getting into the CFP, IMO it would probably happen if OSU went 11-1 with a win over Oregon. Not expecting OSU to go 11-1 or 12-0 though. And the CFP currently has a 5-7 format. The five highest ranked conference champions and the next seven highest ranked teams. As far as CFP money, it's not going to disappear. It's going to be less than it was but more than the G5 schools get ($3.6 million to $1.8 million). Again, not a G5 conference. And OSU can get a lot more CFP money if it does wind up in a power conference. Less if it lands in a G5 conference. Lesser is not better.

If we have to whore ourselves out to the devil, selling our soul to get into one of the other P4 conferences - I like the plan of being in a lower tiered conference, two tiered system, and let the SEC and B1G prostrate themselves to the TV executives. But, other's mileage may vary.

Yep 5-7... top 4 rated get the byes... didn't see where 5th conference champ automatically gets 5th seed, or does it then just go by CFP poll?

But, other's mileage may vary. Explain exactly how OSU would be selling its soul to get into a P4 conference? Money isn't inherently bad. As far as a two-tiered system, we already have a gap between the SEC and Big Ten and the Big 12 and ACC. The G5 is now the third tier. I think OSU has proven it fits just fine in the second tier.
