I attended. We've played in worse conditions in a couple civil wars a few years back. That was when we still had a dirt pitchers mound. Conditions are the same for both teams. No reason we should have stopped it. Umpire was adjusting strike zone it looked like to me. Game would have worked itself out. Keljo could be awfully hard on them tomorrow if he's the same guy he was Friday night. Whoevers decision it was to call it took too long and they communicated poorly. No reason to leave our team standing in the rain during the extended deliberation. So it's OK to play in that rain for another 5 innings but not OK to stand in it for 10 minutes while there is a discussion?

Yesterday we didn’t think we would get any games in, and that would have been much worse. Tomorow we win this thing. By 2-2:30 we will be looking at UK matchups.

How will the fanbase be? I'm assuming the UCI fans planned through Monday. But what about Beaver fans? Some of the Friday games at Goss were pretty sparse. I hope we can show up in force.

Body generates a bit of extra heat while competing, not so much when just standing. Competence in managing the situation would have looked much different, no matter the decision.

I expressed no opinion on the merits of the delay, whether it should have happened or not. Just observing that it's a definite factor in the dynamics of this matchup, and gives UCI a little bit of new life when they were sucking wind pretty bad. And if the worst happens, and UCI pulls it out, it will be hard to look back and not think 'what if' about this delay. Kinda like we do about anything that doesn't happen to go our way in sports.... I should add, it's not all bad for us. We're lucky to get 5 innings out of Segura anyway, and he was probably almost done tonight. Better for us to have a break mid-game close to when we would have gone to the bullpen anyway. What really would have sucked is if May or Kmatz were throwing one of their gems, and a delay cut them off. I think we'll finish our business tomorrow.... You are probably right, just would have liked to get closer to 5 innings than just the 3 he got....

I have a couple of tix in GA, but if someone wants to donate a couple in the stands, I'd gladly use them.

I was there. It was definitely wet but no wetter at the time the game was suspended than it was for most of the game. Pansy as_ NCAA umpires😜 The rain was increasing, and the conditions were getting worse each minute. I, too, have seen some games that were arguably worse conditions, but they were regular season games. The NCAA's decision was made in tournament conditions, with far more than a regular season record on the line. Given that, the players were going to be paying less attention to the conditions than their effort to achieve an outcome, so the NCAA called it in the name of safety. More courageous and upstanding to suspend the game than pansy-arsed, if you ask me. Lighten up. It's gonna work out just fine, and everyone's going to walk away intact.

Baseball is 90% standing on defense. And, since you've never, ever, managed a NCAA, nor know the protocols and procedures let's just surmise your take doesn't hold "water".

Most of you follow this a lot more closely than I do, and I readily admit I could be accused of not knowing what I'm talking about. But I think this suspension of play helps us much more than Irvine. They've burned a lot of arms, have they not? If they pitch Pinto tomorrow, it's on 2 days rest, and then, where do they go from there?
As somebody else pointed out, we weren't hoping for more than 5 from Segura anyway. So we need 6 total from the pen instead of 4, but our pen is in great shape - nobody's used up and couldn't go tomorrow. I don't think Irvine is in anywhere near that shape. Advantage us.
Another thing: I didn't get to see any of the game, but I imagine putting up 4 in the first inning must have had Irvine pretty pumped up about their chances. Giving up 5 in the very next 1/2 inning must have deflated them big time. That could hang over and hurt them tomorrow.
Going forward, getting in 3 innings today means that our normal rotation will be available in Kentucky with the usual full week between starts.
And we are going to Kentucky!

It's called SAFETY. The players safety comes #1 not OSU's advantage or disadvantage due to a delay. If you can't finish off this game or the 2nd if needed it's not the delay that caused it. If you attend regularly "cold" is not a factor in a delay scenario. But, this is by far the wettest, most consistently hard rain I've ever seen a game played it at Goss. Probably cuz any other "regular season" would have never started. I expressed no opinion on the merits of the delay, whether it should have happened or not. Just observing that it's a definite factor in the dynamics of this matchup, and gives UCI a little bit of new life when they were sucking wind pretty bad. Sorry... my comment wasn't really directed at you. Nor a general declaration after reading all the negative posts on the decision, intentionally throwing at players, weather not that bad, etc.

I've sat through just about every home game for the last 20 years, and if this was a regular season game, sure, they probably would've played on. But with the whole day forecast known beforehand, it most likely never would've been started. I thought suspending it was absolutely the right decision. When you have a player slip 'n slidin' well past the base, a 30' high pitch into the netting, and a batter getting plunked in his backside, all within an inning, that tells ya something right there.
Certainly safety is a factor, but this is a playoff game too, and the weather definitely detracted from the quality of play.
We'll get 'em tomorrow!
