Wazzu is averaging six runs/game in Pullman and almost as many on the road. Oregon State dropped the series against Wazzu last year in Corvallis. And Oregon State has to go up to Pullman this year. Cougs are decent and I won't be overlooking them.(Neither will our team, after last year.) Oregon State is looking for revenge against Arizona State, Stanford, Cal, and Wazzu. Oregon State owes Arizona for last year, and Arizona has won every series in Tucson in the past 10 seasons. Oregon State's last series win over UCLA in Corvallis was back in 2018. Plenty of old scores to settle down the stretch.

UW really gifted us with some Whip Improvement. 1.41 to 1.32 in a week.

We didn't play them in 2020.

When it comes to decision making, there's an old baseball saying "play to win the game you're in". In translation, my translation anyhow, as a manager don't think ahead to the next game when it comes to your bullpen at the jeopardy of not taking care of business currently at hand.
Whether that saying is wisely correct or not for most or all situations is up for debate. It did cross my mind yesterday though as Segura went back out on the field in the 7th. Given this is a short rest week before next appearance, it looks evident that was not in the calculation while keeping the door closed on Hushys was.
Other thoughts?

Segura needed to be stretched. At some point, the endurance to get 90+ pitches will be needed. It did not add unnecessary stress to his arm.
Imho, the starting rotation for the USC series will be: Committee on Thursday May on Friday Katz on Saturday with Segura the first guy out of the pen.

Imho, the starting rotation for the USC series will be: Committee on Thursday May on Friday Katz on Saturday with Segura the first guy out of the pen. May's situation is the only reason I could see this happening, I just don't see a scenario that you skip a start from one of your weekend guys and go a committee approach twice (May likely doesn't go more than 50-60 pitches regardless of the day he pitches).
My best guess would be everyone moves up a day (May included), and Thursday remains the committee day and you hope you can get 3 innings from May before turning it over. One day in the grand scheme of things likely isn't a huge difference maker, MLB/MiLB guys go on even less rest all season long, but the injury situation does give me a little pause in saying that.

Canham implied they would be moving up in interviews before the UW game.

Dorman said yesterday, everyone is moving up a day.

We badly need the starters to eat up some innings and preserve the pen too. After the game Saturday they fly home and we have a Mon/Tues series with Zaga. Now the Zags don't look good this year but if we run out of pitchers it's a problem. I expect we have a handful of guys not making the trip to USac and resting up for those games.

I think it was as simple as Segura was mowin em down, so you let him eat. He already seems like a very mature freshman. He looks like potential Friday night guy in the future, imo.

Relievers can pitch multiple days during the week. Just because we haven't been doing it so far, doesn't mean it can't happen. We won't run out of pitchers, especially if they pitch on Thursday. Thursday guys, other than May, can pitch on Monday. Friday guys can pitch on Tuesday.

All hands on deck for sure.
