Baseball America says so.
Peter: Trent Caraway, 3B, Oregon State. Caraway is one of the most highly touted freshman bats in the country and will be an everyday member of what is a stacked Oregon State lineup. He is ultra-physical and has the unique ability to hit for both average and power, and figures to be a high-impact player in his first year.

Yea, but he hasn’t played a single college baseball game. His potential is there, but potential does not win games/awards. We have no idea how he may perform going forward and discussing NFOTY is just plain foolish/premature.
Besides, his arm may fall off. 🤣

That doesn't come across well on message boards. But, if not don't rain on the cut & paste hype parade! OSU fans always have high, positive hopes, but some also know there is real life. I mean how did the hype on Turley match up with results? Surprisingly D1 ball is different than HS ball and hype really doesn't effect actual play between lines. And, of course this season a couple highly hyped Frosh arms are already down. Really happened despite the hype. Hmmmm? But, hell some think only they determine what should be posted. I guess some need to realize message boards contain all sorts of perspectives and they don't need to match?!

The sports writers gotta talk about something in the off-season, might as well be us.

I guess some need to realize message boards contain all sorts of perspectives and they don't need to match?! Didn’t Turley hit over .300 with 14 homeruns as a true freshman? Ya he slumped for part of the season, but to finish the way he did and end up with the numbers he did, I’d say he absolutely lived up to the hype. You are right that Decremer is out for the season and Palmer is out for a while with a minor setback, but this is baseball, rarely do years go by without a pitcher or two or three going down with injuries. At least they are true freshmen and not guys that were proven returning commodities. They are young and will have time to rest and recover appropriately. With regards to the purpose of this thread, I predict Caraway will be an absolute stud in his time at OSU. I’m not saying he will be the National Freshman of the year, but his tools and accolades are too good to be just “hype.” The guy is going to start for a consensus top ten team that is loaded with veteran, returning talent. That doesn’t happen unless the coaches know you are too good to keep off the field.

"How did the hype on Turley match up with results?"
.309 and 14 bombs? Uh... pretty good?

The point was his play didn't match all the hype on the board. Pac12 play especially... the good competition...
.164/.236/.292 /1 HR 28 Ks 10 BBs
1/4 of his RBIs were vs Western Carolina.
But, the great news he ended the season on a huge tear. Hopefully that carries over.
There was no impeachment of players or coaching involved. It was hype vs realism comments. Sometimes they don't match and there is a reason. Some (in their speaking for others!) stated that only hype should be allowed!

I know when I started playing in college, the learning curve was like drinking from a fire hose. I wasn't any great shakes as it turned out, but did improve and had a little success. In my opinion, based on how your freshman year works, Turley performed really, really well overall, especially in the post season. But, yeah, we'll see how Caraway and some of the other freshmen work out. Segura is gonna kill it though.

Preseason selections for people who have never played at this level. Media really scrapping the bottom of the barrel for clicks.

Some faster, some never. And, even the experienced will have struggles. Heck, Kasper hit over .300 overall, but had more Ks (65 vs 60), less BBs (29 vs 34) than true Frosh Turley. Baseball can be a brutal game for egos at times.

Is cut and paste a big issue ? Cut and paste is a method of sharing information that in some way has an affect on Beaver baseball. Acknowledge the source and share - you can't link to information behind a paywall on a subscription site.
"Gloom and Doom" seems annoyed by that and I find it rather puzzling. I thought the idea here was to share information, comments and opinions. Silly me!

The tail of two Turleys.
If his plate discipline continues to get better, look out.

I don't see anyone complaining about the cut and paste.....maybe the response was deleted by a mod? Fwiw, i appreciate the info you share, easy, and always look forward to it. Also, remember that some people on these forums will argue with you if you tell em water is wet.

As a program going independent for at least a few years, we need to be amplifying any hype, not downplaying it. I mean, as a college baseball fan, I'd want to go check out the potential NFOTY if he happens to be in town.
