Is cut and paste a big issue ? Cut and paste is a method of sharing information that in some way has an affect on Beaver baseball. Acknowledge the source and share - you can't link to information behind a paywall on a subscription site. "Gloom and Doom" seems annoyed by that and I find it rather puzzling. I thought the idea here was to share information, comments and opinions. Silly me! Did I miss something? I don't see anyone complaining about the cut and paste.....maybe the response was deleted by a mod? Fwiw, i appreciate the info you share, easy, and always look forward to it. Also, remember that some people on these forums will argue with you if you tell em water is wet. Water is not and cannot be wet by itself. It makes solids wet. We perceive it as wet, because we are solid. Also, you have to have a sufficient quantity of water for it to be wet. If you only have a couple of molecules, water actually behaves differently than it does in higher quantities, like the size of a rain drop. Once it aggregates, water en masse causes solids to become wet. The sky is also not blue. We perceive it as blue, because of how the (generally) white light scatters and how our eyes are set up to perceive scattered white light. We are also limited by the colors that we can see. If we could see into the ultraviolet spectrum of light, we would probably be in agreement that the sky was that color. And all of that is a huge oversimplification, because some people cannot perceive the full visible spectrum. This thread has been hijacked. I demand four parachutes and $200,000.

It was basically someone stating what and how you may post. So, realism and pointing out baseball (like all D1 sports) requires a transition period is now "doom & gloom"?! Weird... and pretty sophomoric as most would tend to say D&G is stuff like... recruiting will fall off the map, no coach will ever consider OSU, OSU's programs will never recover, etc. Pointing simplistic truths like until you actually play D1 ball players have a ton of potential and hype doesn't always equal reality. And, even exerienced players have tough stretches most hype pieces ignore as it's not their purpose. No player or coach was mentioned or dissed other than giving examples to support hype is one thing, reality another. So, in my stating our Frosh pitchers have tons of potential it was seen as a negative, raining on his parade. In defense pointing out examples if how hype and reality didn’t always match is now D&G. I believe most who read here would say I'm as far from D&G, especially on the football threads. But, for some simple realism backed by history seems to offend or block their "sunshine" views.

Never confuse realism with negativity.
I understand there is uncertainty with college freshman but why the constant need to ding everybody as unproven, and untested? To what purpose?
Caraway has hit Trinity League pitching (as good as it gets), elite travel team pitching while playing with Canes National, Area Code pitching. USA Baseball, etc. Scouts had him ticketed in the first 3 rounds of the MLB draft and our coaches started recruiting him when he was 15 (what were they thinking?).
He has hit over .400 at every level of competition so chances are, he'll be a good hitter at the next one . . . but let's make sure everyone knows he is unproven and hasn't hit all that brutal PAC-12 pitching yet in spite of his performance all fall against some of the best pitching in the PAC - ours!
It's hard to imagine a born hitter with a probability factor of about 98% of being successful at OSU, carrying an "unproven" label on his jersey.
Baseball America's writer didn't just randomly select him as "freshman of the Year", he earned that with his career performance. Casting a shadow over all of that seems odd if not downright weird.

It seems strange that a thread about pre-season FRESHMAN of the year, that we'd have to talk about that fact that a guy is unproven at the collegiate level. By definition, EVERY player in contention for FRESHMAN of the year, is unproven at the collegiate level. I'm glad they're talking about our guy.

As a program going independent for at least a few years, we need to be amplifying any hype, not downplaying it. I mean, as a college baseball fan, I'd want to go check out the potential NFOTY if he happens to be in town. I tend to disagree. Hype can set you up for failure. I don't mind preseason rankings and stories about the program but you can get to the point where hype drives the bus too far from reality. For instance stats wise we all know Turley had a very solid freshman campaign but we also know he struggled mightily at the plate for much of the season. He had a ton of hype coming in so 14 he and 300 batting looks okay but not great. That issue is literally in this thread. I think Caraway is a stud and is going to have an immediate impact but maybe we can just wait and see how he does against a D1 pitcher before we get expectations too wild.

Preseason selections for people who have never played at this level. Media really scrapping the bottom of the barrel for clicks. But the important thing is that the articles are about our guys. Think about those preps at home or even the twelve year old kid who lives and breathes baseball. We are a brand and we are still seen as a brand. Great work by Canham and Dorman!

Baseball America's writer didn't just randomly select him as "freshman of the Year", he earned that with his career performance. Casting a shadow over all of that seems odd if not downright weird. See that's the issue. You make up crap. No specific player was mentioned. You went off on your arrogant high horse that stating "potential" was somehow not only a negative, but shouldn't be posted. Then you add all this extraneous crap that has zero, nothing to do with the topic. Levels, scouting, POY? WTF dude, none is based on D1 results. I wonder how many wonderkins have not lived up to such hype. But, the funny thing, no one mentioned he or the other frosh wouldn't. Just that it was hype and meant they had potential. Read. No player was dissed. It was stated none have played an inning of D1 ball. You... in you ultimate "fake" wisdom deemed it inappropriate to post. Negativity would be stating a specific player would fail or not live up to hype. That was not what began your BS post about what should be posted. Your consistent gerrymandering the actual topic indicates your elementary level of the topic. Surprise... you are not the guru of college baseball. You also don't determine what is posted nor what is negativity or realism for everyone. You mainly post other people's info and thoughts. Then base your own words on those of others. Above you naively reiterate certain players are indeed "unproven", as they have not faced opposition. Just using one aspect of the above post... there are more, but anything else is a waste of space. Just a hint, obviously your coaching knowledge is very, VERY, limited. If you think facing minimal pitches in practices from your own staff is the same as game situations vs opposing pitchers. Lol Dude, I posted a short, simple message that stated there had been no games to interpret anything about any of the newcomers. Go back, read. Hence, it's all potential at this point. PS... do you actually read your BS? "Born hitter", "98% probability of success", "over .400 at every level" except D1 right? ... FFS there is just so much to give pause.
