boy.
This is a tough thread to read. DJU has been phenomenal this season, so to see some of the Clemson-ish criticisms of his game have been jarring.
Point-blank, the Beavers have been in games that they never would have been without DJU. His ability to break tackles and run for first downs has been absolutely clutch. He has made some throws this year that we haven't seen an Oregon State quarterback make since the kid from Scapoose was enduring boos from this fanbase. Has he been perfect, well no. But it's really weird to me that his obvious physical gifts and advantages he gives to the offense are just brushed aside to focus on any mistake he makes. He would be in the top 3 for Heisman conversation if he was doing much better than he is right now, so it makes me wonder what reasonable expectations really are??
Oregon State is ranked #15 in the country and people still find a reason to complain about the QB because he isn't Cam Newton.

I should know better by now I guess.

Finally visiting this board, don't have any desire to read through the thread, but I just want to share the one coherent thought I'm still maintaining about that game, through my still-lingering depression.
One more screen pass. Just one more f'ing screen pass on that last drive. That's all I want for Christmas. It was working beautifally all night, and I'm convinced would have gashed them good with how aggressive their defense was playing.
I know we didn't have time to continue dinking and dunking and needed to get some big hardage chunks, but those back-to-back low-percentage pass plays were just sickening.
A screen pass would have done it, I'm sure of it. Just one more freaking screen pass. It would not only get 10-20 yards and put us into their territory, but would have softened up the defense a bit and make them think twice about pinning their ears back.
Dammit.

Hell I could say the same thing about any of our losses. The tunnel screen to the running back when the blitz is on is deadly. Against WSU we just didn't seem to have it in our play book. It was two weeks later I saw us finally use it and yes it's been good extremely under utilized. This year's team didn't have last year's defense if it did we would be 11-0 or 10-1 right now. DJU has not been perfect but he's been very Impressive. Is it a hot take to say with Gulbranson we might have the same record but with different losses. BG made us more one dimensional but we are very good at that dimension(running the ball). I didn't appreciate the obvious 1st down run didn't work pass two times in a row and pray you don't go to 4th down was a bad plan. I wished especially in that rain we were more one dimensional.

A couple of comments about the game:
1. sure the qb stats were about the same. Thankfully uw receivers dropped at least half a dozen passes. Penix throws a beautiful ball.
2. I was hoping on our last drive when we got to about the 30 that smith/lindgren had the mindset of last year's civil war and simply gave the ball to martinez and Fenwick and let the horses run.
