For me, B12 vs P12 rebuild/Mtn West, I lean B12 (really saying this without factoring in financial implications as it's just a lot of rumor and speculation/wishful thinking at this point).
My thought process -
Keeps baseball from dying on the vine IMO Keeps wrestling from dying on the vine. It will be an elite basketball conference. Zona, Kansas, Baylor, Houston. K-State & Cincy usually solid. yeah we'll be at the bottom, but I'd rather go against the best. I'm sure Wayne is just 2 players away though. lol I like keeping some sense of "normalcy" by continuing to play the Zona and mountain schools Football - better level of competition overall. I'd certainly rather play Texas Tech or Iowa St over San Jose St or Wyoming. Bowl games - not really worried about that, conf tie-ins will come and go. I imagine Holiday and Vegas bowls won't have a problem finding new conference partners down the road.
In all honesty, I just want this to be done with and know our fate and I'll hopefully find a silver lining wherever we end up.

Oooohhh... If you like podcast rumors, you gotta turn on the Monty Show... they are reporting the CFP Committee doesn't want to give "the PAC 2" an automatic qualifier if on their own, would rather go to a 5/7 model. If an expanded PAC 12 occurs, then it's uncertain. I'd say that's a fair assumption.
Also reporting OSU and WSU to the Big 12 is still not happening.
Also reporting they're "hearing" everything legally should be going in OSU/WSU's favor and probably should go to a settlement before the November 14th trial date.
Also they think very highly of OSU, not keen on WSU and their people.

Do we agree to split the pie 'somewhat' evenly (OSU/WSU get a 2 share vs the rest get a 1 share), and get a B12 invite and full or close to full share? The MWC merge/reverse merge/selective merge scenario won't keep us in a Px conference. Plus too many of the MWC schools don't play certain sports at a high enough level to make it viable

What can't we live without? About $30m/yr and the reasonable expectation that the money will continue to flow for some time. Even if we win the $300m lottery, that money won't last forever and the Pac-Mountain TV rights aren't going to be close to $30m/yr. And it will take $30m/yr to keep coaches like Smith, Bray and Canham. That said, I might end up liking the B12 more than the old Pac. Winning the conference championship is a feasible goal and the playing field is a lot more level. Our path to the CFP is more clear and if we fall short, we'll have some new bowl ties that aren't in El Paso. Outside football, the B12 is way better than the alternatives. The MW is good at basketball and nothing else. The B12 is excellent at basketball and decent at everything else. Sure but...maybe I'm phrasing my question wrong but...then what? Let's say someone gives you $1 billion dollars for OSU. I'm going to put this in facetious terms to try and understand - is your life more enriched because OSU has a shot, albeit very rare and unlikely, at a national championship? If OSU fell out of Division 1, what would happen (to you personally)? Sorry, maybe I'm being too philosophical in trying to understand this. I mean, you know upfront that even if you get into the Big12, you're already $30million+ behind all the teams in the B1G and the SEC. Everyone is constantly scrambling to make more money because that seemingly puts them "on top". If the NCAA had equal revenue share, this would be moot, but, here we are. So people spend all of this time and emotional energy to get to point X, and I'm just trying to figure out what that gets people personally? Additional pride in OSU because we make X dollars per year? You can't keep up with the folks that just make stuff up... That $30 mil will not happen without B12. That new TV rights for a combined conference will be $4mil or a bit more per team or some low number. Baseball from dying on the vine Wrestling from dying on the vine IF there is Pac12 control over the money and even a decent TV deal waiting with a dissolution/merger OSU would make more than a B12 share, cuz if they were not invited by the media provider, why would they suddenly get a full share? The Pac12/CFP money is not only enough to sustain, but more than B12 partial share (oops, they said they are done), but new media deals will be coming and a dissolution of the MWC means someone lost a lot of inventory that is suddenly a bit better with OSU/WSU. And, then Apple maybe involved or even combo with CBS. Wrestling, baseball, etc can make their NC schedules as strong as they want to get national recognition and RPI. Baseball in fact they needs to play and beat the best at the end of the year why not cut your teeth during the season? And, all these baseball folks with the negative vibes really believe OSU baseball will fall off so badly they are not one of the top 64 teams? Wrestling... well, the post season is individually based and again NC duals, and elite tournaments mean more than some of out Pac12 (not) matches. Funny, all this perceived negative about a merger, but seeming actuality about a B12 affiliation.

And, OSU and WSU would have to make it impossible to not include them... just like they would this season.

For the fiftieth time on this board, no automatic qualifiers. The top 6 ranked conference champions get bids currently, in the 5/7 model the top 5 ranked conference champions get bids. NO AUTOMATIC QUALIFIERS.

The top 6 rated conference champions from the P5 & G5 were to get "automatic" bids under what was planned. I believe they are saying they expect the Pac 2 would not qualify as a Conference on its own. My bad as far as choice of words in the previous post. They expect that if there is only a Pac 2, it goes to a 5/7 model. IF the Pac rebuilds by next season then it could be TBD as to whether it is a 5/7 or a 6/6 scenario.

And the CFP can't expel any conference without a unanimous vote correct? And WSU's president is the Pac's representative on the CFP board correct? Seems to me that the Pac2 will share equally in CFP money for two years if they stay intact.

I'm still curious exactly what people think will happen or what they are aiming for if we go to the Big12 (or even, for fantasy's sake, say we go to the B1G). Like, what are you expecting to happen that won't happen otherwise? Are you excited because you think we'll have a better shot at a national championship? Do you even care if OSU wins a national championship? Are you excited because we'll have more national publicity? Do you care if we have national publicity? Are you excited because we'll play former PAC-12 teams or because we'll play Kansas? (I mean, personally, I get a little excited by the idea of a Halloween game with Oklahoma State U., but that's it). I'm just having a hard time reading what people think is going to happen if we're in the Big12 that they can't live without? I think football will be in a better position to stay on the upward trend that Smith has going. I doubt that OSU will be able to win a national title but very few football programs are actually in a legitimate position to do so. OSU is getting quite a bit of national publicity right now. Yes, I think (both national and local) publicity matters. At some point if publicity doesn't matter at all then why should schools even keep athletics? I mean, you can have intramurals and no publicity whatsoever. I don't care that much about what schools OSU plays as far as the former Pac-12 schools or the other Big 12 programs. It will quickly become old hat after a few years anyway. I think the Big 12 will be way more beneficial to the other sports. Baseball? Yes. Women's basketball? Yes. Gymnastics? Yes. Etc. IMO it will make a huge difference in keeping those sports in better positions to succeed. Recruiting is a big part of this. I believe that athletes want to play in the power conferences and that won't change. I do not believe that most of those athletes will consider a Pac-MWC conference to be a power conference. I do not believe that most athletes want to play in the MWC as opposed to a power conference. Are there exceptions? Sure. Exceptions don't prove a rule. More money comes because more people want to watch teams from the power conferences rather than the others. The Beavers very well could get a big windfall for a few years and maybe they stick with the Pac-2 for that time but being a member of a power conference will most likely keep them in a better financial position over the long term. Money will matter no matter what OSU winds up doing in the short and long term.

CFP has zero to do with P5 identification. And the CFP $ is an agreement with the P5 on how to split ESPN $ (mostly), that can't be altered. The CFP can change to 12 team playoff format anyway they want.

Do we think OSU is getting a lot of national attention?
For football? For realignment/Pac12's demise?
Our 4-1 record is a blip on the radar without all this fuss.

Oh, and a bonus tidbit from that podcast... they think merging with the MWC is OSU's best chance of a golden ticket to the playoffs. Not joining another P4 conference.

So yes, if OSU and WSU were to move ahead as the Pac-2, the champion of the conference would go to the CFP and bring in a big payday. And with Shulz as one of the voting members and the vote requiring a unanimous outcome, it definitely seems to be the case.
