That's absolutely correct, Dave. Two things are very obvious to anybody: (1) The bylaws, and recent precedent, dictate that those schools that announce they are leaving the conference forfeit their right to vote on conference matters from that moment forward, not after they have, indeed, left. So the conference commissioner should not be seeking their counsel or input on anything but routine day to day running of the conference, and only for those days during which they are still members. (2) Having announced their intention to leave en masse after the close of the current academic year, thus delivering a death blow to the most successful conference in NCAA history, it is abundantly clear to anyone with an IQ of at least 100 who has reached 10 years of age that those schools have 100% focus on their own individual best interests and 0% on the conference that employs Mr. Kliavkoff to look out for its interests. Clearly, then, calling this meeting is not in the conference's interests, but in that of those who are destroying it. It is the collegiate equivalent of providing aid and comfort to the enemy, and is most certainly an offense worthy of and deserving of termination for cause. Just as soon as OSU and WSU get voting control, they should fire, without any severance package, George and any cronies, and replace him on an interim basis with Mr. Luck. If George wants to sue, let him, but it is extremely important to have someone running the show who actually cares about the show. p.s. It would be much better to replace George with an outsider of outstanding personal reputation and qualifications, like Condeleeza Rice, if such could be persuaded to fight for a cause. Condy is an interesting idea, but she and GWB lobbied the ACC hard to take Stanford and SMU, don't know about Cal. She's probably too close to this mess to appoint her comissioner.

Hopefully this puts to bed anyone’s thoughts on here that George had little to do with conference implosion and he is essential to run conference operations. I still think he had little to do with the conference's implosion. That was on the Presidents and ADs. I believe that now he's just trying to get paid for the last 2+, nearly 3, years of his contract and is essentially throwing the conference, as an organization, under the bus to do it. He deserves to be canned for that. The conference imploding over the course of the last year or more, and calling a meeting including non-voting schools to dissolve the conference, are two separate things. He is now clearly not working for the survival of the conference.

Don't think there is one post stating George had little to do. The crux is that he's been (as was Larry), an employee. The Bucks stops with the presidents. Agreed. The new relevant topic of the moment is the reprehensible and unacceptable recent behaviors and actions of GK. Almost like he's trying to get fired for cause. Basing all hope that the other 10 are in his corner and they have any standing.

But when I was searching for the name of a person with great stature, ties to college sports, and of the PAC 12, hers immediately came to mind.

It is evident from the filed complaint that George acted in his own self interest and not for the good of the remaining members. I am curious what the Kliavkoff defenders on here think about this latest revelation? Yes, George Kliavkoff called together a board of directors meeting with 9 or 10 schools of the PAC-12, not the remaining 2 members. If this meeting takes place, the schools could vote to dissolve the conference, enabling the assets to be split evenly by all 12 schools and Kliavkoff pocketing the remaining two years of his contract, worth $7M. As PAC-12 commissioner, Kliavkoff should be acting for the wellbeing of the conference. That includes preservation. The PAC-12 board of directors has not told him to do otherwise. It sure seems like Kliavkoff's behavior provides sufficient grounds for termination with cause, costing Kliavkoff the last two years of his contract. He has no one to blame but himself for this. I have serious concerns about Kliavkoff's character. I have a question that I'm too lazy to try to pursue the answer to. Wondering if anybody knows: As conference Commissioner does Kliavkoff have a fiduciary duty to the conference? Or is he just a hired hand?

Oliver Luck would be a good interim commissioner. He actually would be good for a permanent one if he would want the job. Although if there is a reverse merger with the MWC, the current MWC president would be in line for the job

I agree with President Murthy - the other schools in the conference are leaving the conference to join rival conferences. Since they are becoming members of rival conferences, it is a conflict of interest for them to attend the PAC-12 Board meetings. Therefore, they should recuse themselves from attending PAC-12 Board meetings.
Regarding Oliver Luck: Scott Barnes has stated recently that things are going on regarding a new conference for the Beavers that he can't publicly talk about - at this point in time. The guess here is Oliver Luck is right in the middle of this activity.
If Oliver Luck can put together a new PAC-12 conference for OSU & WSU, then yes, he should be given consideration for the PAC-12 Commissioner job. In fact, given that George Kliavkoff is probably on his way out the door for the stunt he just pulled, they should give Luck the job now. Luck would be in a stronger position for putting together a new PAC-12 conference if his title was "PAC-12 Commissioner" instead of "PAC-12 Special Consultant".

You won't know how he did until things clear up. If he wasn't doing anything then he wouldn't still have a job as consultant
