Some people just have, in my mind, a very skewed attitude about things. One of the reasons people hated the Yankees for years (yes, I know MLB vs NFL) was that they could just buy the team they wanted.
I wonder if the rules for college players, which are essentially unlimited free agency, will trickle upwards, or if the major sports leagues' rules to try and steer towards more parity will trickle downwards to level CFB.

it's an odd situation, because the organization can have such a huge impact on career trajectory and earnings.
I understand 100% why Archie Manning didn't want Eli anywhere near the Spanos family.

The difference between the nfl and college football? College football doesn't have a salary cap.

I am however unyielding in my disdain of a parent that would lament his son being the first overall pick in the NFL draft. Many great ones have gotten picked by cruddy teams and gone on to lead a revival of the franchise.

Will not be surprised if Eli gets HOF induction for 2 SB rings and top 10 all time passing yards while Rivers watches (Top 6). Now gonna watch them ruin Herbert who will probably finish top 5 at the pace he is going

He's lamenting the fact that a horrible franchise, like the Cardinals, could get the No. 1 pick and his child would be stuck playing for a horribly-run franchise that hasn't done s%#t since the days it played in Chicago.

It was not clear in your answer, in which you took a shot at a dad ("unyielding in my disdain of a parent") who is looking out for what he believes are the best long-term interests of his child.

I guess when you have a son who's an elite D1 prospect, you get biased......he was able to take his pick of colleges, why not pro teams?
Good thing the pros do it right, and not how this guy wants it.

And, as a first real job, you might actually have to work for an employer and do a job that you really do not like? I am sure none of the rest of us can relate to that one - SMH.
I can think of one other former prominent QB in the league that turned his nose up at multiple offers - even after he was in the league. Still doesn't have a job - shocker!

Yes, and it would be such a nice world if all of us could get everything that we wanted and felt was best for us. Then there's the other 99.9% of athletes that would give their eye teeth to be in that position and would play in Siberia if they had an NFL team. I'm willing to bet that Caleb, while no doubt he's worked hard, has had things laid out pretty nicely for himself solely because he's a great athlete. Many great players have had to fight through bad situations, bad coaches, and crappy teams, and may think that has helped them have the perseverance and desire to get to the top level. Others might say you have to take the bad with the good, and playing on any team in the NFL isn't bad. There is a long line of players that were drafted #1 by bad teams that did what the folks drafting them hoped (and expected) them to do. Create a winning culture, little by little. Leading a rebuilding effort. Making other players better. Creating interest for talented free agents. Things like that. Being a life-long mediocre athlete in all sports I'm sure I'm biased against players that appear to be prima-donnas, who have had all the advantages, and expect to always have them. I'm not saying it's right, I don't think there is a right or wrong here. It's just how I feel, how I interpreted Williams Sr's comments. I don't consider it taking a shot at him. And I'm fine with that.

Most, if not all of us, on this board had/have the ability to choose where we wanted to work, and with whom we worked, whether we were a ditch digger, engineer, teacher, whatever. If you did work for an employer and had to do a job you really didn't like, it was your choice, and you choose poorly. The fact that Williams will be well-paid, or that he does something many others in the world would love to do, is immaterial. He will have no choice where he can work in his chosen field. And if he chooses to return to school instead of declaring for the draft if he knows he's ticketed for a trainwreck like the Cardinals, that is his option, too.

He could play in the CFL, the XFL, the USFL, the Arena Leagues, if any of those still exist.
