Haven't heard anything from Barnes, the WSU AD, the Mt. West commish, SDSU's AD, even the Pac-12 commish.
That's a good thing. True negotiations/deal making is done on the QT, under the radar, with no leaking.
Barnes was supposed to lead a media tour of the west grandstand today. I would not be surprised if he farmed it out to Kimya or Sara Elcano. He has bigger fish to fry.
Give Cal and Stanford a deadline to SOGOTP; either you're with us or against us.
Hopefully there's some progress. Need to have something fairly soon to start addressing 2024-25 schedules, logistics, trying to pursue a better media contract, etc. And to be fair to athletes and coaches who might want to look elsewhere ... gong out, but there might be some players at other schools who would find an all-West conference attractive.
This nonsense with the AAC is just noise. There is no future with a conference whose members are in the Eastern and Central time zones. None. Travel costs alone make this a ridiculous idea.
Our future is tied to the MWC. Just have to decide how much of the MWC.

One other thing: No conference member more than a 3-to-4 hour plane ride away. New Mexico and San Diego are as far as I'd want to go. It's best for cost containment, and for the athletes.

"Our future is tied to the MWC." This is not yet a fact. Right now, it's no more than your personal preference. Which is fine. Oregon State will go to the Big 12 if that road is opened to it.

And one more thing: I want programs who've shown they will make an investment in athletics. Wyoming. CSU and SDSU built new football stadiums. Boise State has plans to upgrade, so does Fresno, I think. UNLV just moved into the Raiders dibs. Utah State (under Barnes) really upgraded its facilities. You want in, show us you're committed. This won't be a fight for lightweights.

Oregon State will go to the Big 12 if that road is opened to it. I can see a way that happens. We need Stanford and Cal to go to the Big 10 though. Oregon State and Wazzu are the last ones to turn the lights out, we get all the intellectual property, the network, all of that...and we get the $420 million war chest they had saved up. Even if we have to pay the Comcast overpayment back, you've got around $350 million to split between us and Wazzu and we can afford to go to the Big 12 for a very reduced amount.

Never said it was a fact. Just the obvious conclusion. Of course we'd go to the Big 12 if they offered. Guess what? They're not going to call us.

They might not. But I think there's a better chance than zero. Possibly a significantly better chance. Personally, I'm going to hold out hope that they do. If that doesn't come to pass, then I'll root for some sort of conference cobbled together with OSU/WSU/MWC/others.

Maybe they'll offer us 20 cents on the dollar compared to the other 18. Such a deal.

How do you know any of that as fact? Have you read the bylaws? When do the departing teams voting rights end? If they end next July 31st then they still control the board so even if you have read the bylaws they might change. Do the institutions (NCAA and CFP) have to pay the pac12 in the coming years when it is obvious the pac12 they agreed to pay is no more? Since no one but internet posters is claiming that OSU and WSU get all the assets, I would cool your jets on that.

If the Big 12 wanted us (or we them), why wouldn't it have been done at the same time the others were announced? I've been reading a lot about how the travel would be prohibitive for us and wazzu, but the same holds true for teams traveling to the northwest. And I'm also thinking that the Big 12 is no different than the SEC and the Big 10, exemplifying what is wrong in college sports. The Mountain West feels like a more comfortable place, a better fit. I've mentioned alliance before. In order for the remaining PAC 12 schools to keep the $420 million, if the MWC formed an alliance with the PAC 12, moving 2 or 3 schools to the PAC and formalizing a full merger in 6 years, that would be fine by me. If we can keep the money with a full merger now, and split into 2 divisions, that too would be fine. If we're no longer associated with the 4 corners schools in any way, that would be good.

I've questioned this a couple times in the Rotating Tap threads but nobody seems to have a concrete answer. It's just way more fun to celebrate this windfall before OSU has seen a penny of it than to cast any kind of doubt on it. I get that, especially considering the situation we find OSU athletics in at the moment. But if that money never comes or is split 12 ways then talking as if that $420 million is a sure thing right now is just adding another punch in the gut in the long run.

The Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors (COP/C) voted unanimously today to admit the University of Oregon and the University of Washington to the Big Ten Conference effective August 2, 2024.
When Utah officially joins the league on August 2, 2024, the Big 12 Conference will feature Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech, Utah, and West Virginia as members.
Looks like 8/1/24 will be their last day in the Pac-12. I hate the despicable 8 but they probably should get paid for 2023-24, they earned it.

Barnes did indeed end up leading the media tour today and offered a brief statement on what is happening with the realignment situation:

Word is that the ACC is now looking at Cal, Stanford and SMU!
"Employing a rich donor base and a healthy desire to advance to the Power Four level, the university is open to forgoing conference distribution pay for its first several years in a new league."

That will drive fsu and Clemson away. Just putting pressure on the Big 10 and fox to get Stanford and Cal in.
