Barnes did indeed end up leading the media tour today and offered a brief statement on what is happening with the realignment situation: "Highest and best" certainly doesn't sound like they're trying to work out a merger with the MWC...

Yeah, that's the last minute desperation move. I don't think it'll come to that. Just need to be patient with Cal and Stanford.

Good. A power 5 team finishing in the top 25, starting the season in the top 25, ought not be driven down to the MWC.

Comment is just lip service, you don't expect him to give any bad news do you?
Stanford has people with deep pockets, uncle phil is one of many, that aren't going to allow them to get knocked down out of the p5 or 4. Cal has so much debt that they have to ride Stanford's coattails.
I'd be surprised if OSU and WSU are offered anything but an invite to the mwc. I'd be fine with that as long as it is all in the west.
Then again, I could be totally wrong.

Wazzu and Oregon State are going to own the Pac 12 network outright if we're the last two in the conference. The Big 12 wants a network. So, yeah, we could join the Mountain West. Or... bring our network to the Big 12 and let them license games to anybody that wants to broadcast them for way more money for everybody. We have that one gigantic advantage over anybody else that might want to get into the Big 12. Not my ideal outcome, but better than Mountain West. As much as the Pac 12 network was derided, it could be what saves us from purgatory.

Yep, this is the part of the $420 million payout, etc., that is the real leverage for OSU and WSU (if those are the two Pac teams left and it's determined that they do get it all). Might work a deal for the Pac-12 Network and have a big chunk of cash coming in as well for a time. But I still haven't seen any reporting that actually confirms that OSU and WSU would indeed get all the Pac-12 stuff.

I’m also questioning the $420 million that everyone seems to think we have.

The Big 12 100 percent wants a network and so, yeah, they could "want" OSU and WSU if they had the ability to bring them one. And that is a very big if. There are some additional reasons why the Big-12 might be amenable to adding OSU but none that put the Beavers in a particularly strong position.

And, if the B12 truly wanted a network so badly wouldn't they have just added all the remaining Pac12 teams? They'd have a full conference and the network they supposedly crave. Makes no sense they'd now add to gain what they could have gained previously.

The talent too. We're in a decent position.

They don't want them blocking moves that could potentially help their conference because of academics. They want programs that want to be there. Stanford and Cal are great schools, i value that, but they're a pain in the ass. We bring a lot of TV sets, an solid attitude and a TV network.

There has been stories out there about the Big-12 bringing back their network since the news of Texas and Oklahoma leaving hit. How do I know that OSU and WSU would be the "owners" of the Pac-12 Network and its hardware, etc.? Not to mention the NCAA payouts that apparently total 420 million? I don't, nor have I claimed that I do. In fact, I've questioned it in a few posts. Nobody has clear-cut confirmation that it's true. If true, the Big-12 could make a deal with the remaining team or teams (right now there are four). A merger with the Pac-12 (when it was still mostly together) probably could have done it but not just simply adding teams. The idea most likely would be just adding two more teams, making 18 total, which fits within their general parameters from what I've read.

With the addition of UA, ASU, Utah and Colorado the Big 12 will have 18 schools next season. Adding two would get them to 20. That's not gonna happen. Especially two West Coast schools, which would totally screw up the proposed divisional plans and thus force two more Western schools into the same division as Central Florida, Cincinnati and West Virginia. (Proposed): East: Kansas State, KU, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Cincinnati, Central Florida, Houston and West Virginia. West: Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, Colorado, Utah, BYU, Arizona and Arizona State.

If you like the quiet were you the guy in high school where the phone didn't ring on the weekend and you enjoyed it? I like quiet when the work is done and I can take a nap. Right now in the situation we are in quiet is not good.
