First... "bottom tier" has more to it than one year's results in one program, and one specific point in time. If that is your case then there are some G5 teams and the AAC which would be considered over OSU. It involves budgets, NIL $, and in this specific case the media market. OSU is bottom tier in the number of eyes watching... EVEN with the results you cite. Argue all you want... the reality is staring you directly in the face. OSU was not invited, and if a future invite is coming to a P5 conference it will be as a pity invite for a greatly reduce fee structure. Now... that would be embarrassing. Small, disrespected fish in a media created, elitist super conference is your choice? That is not the real argument. The real debate is would OSU accept an offer under those circumstances. That is a fair question and 'yes' is not entirely bad or wrong. Could be the least bad of bad choices.

Being a bottom tier team allowed us to win 10 games and thrash (an admittedly depleted) Florida last year
Being a bottom tier team allowed us to gash oregon to death last year
Being a bottom tier team allows us to have a legitimate shot at a conference title this year...then we can dare to dream
Being a bottom tier team allowed us to get DJ in the portal
Being a bottom tier team got us to the Elite 8 a few years back and to 6 CWS with three titles.
Our association w the Pac was NECESSARY in allowing those things to happen. We lose affiliation w a nominal "Power 5" the results will be quick and severe.

Small, disrespected fish in a media created, elitist super conference is your choice? Couldn't disagree more. Give me a chip and a chair. The reality of who we are has not changed in decades. We have always been the least robust amongst the pac. But we were in the Pac and that allowed us to have episodes of pure joy and excitement. It is not embarrassing to be compensated commensurate with your station in life. Lots of valuable and hard working people and institutions do not possess (for numerous reasons) the same market value as others. Doesn't mean they are without value and it doesn't mean they cannot create their own successes even while hamstrung by certain tangible benefits.
Being a small fish in a big pond is survivable, being a large (but shrinking) fish in a small pond is a dead end

Until it changes there is no need debate hypotheticals that we as fans can only guess and generalize about. And, as soon as that happens it no longer a debate... exaggeration, sarcasm, generalizations are the things that destroy any constructive attempts at discussion.

Does that describe joining the Mtn. West?

Thank you. A perfect example of exaggeration and generalizations that make any constructive discussion impossible. LOL... let's all just keep repeating a WSOP expression like it has any real application in this situation.

At this point who knows if the Mountain West even wants us. We have reached an all time low and would appear to be trying any suitor who is willing to take us.

Does that describe joining the Mtn. West? I think it does. We don't just come in and have our current stature remain the same, things do not exist in a vacuum. I think, with our current budget and debt amount that sliding all the way down to 4 or 5 mil a year is existential to our AD. Then you just root for the entire system to fail and hope there is some sort of re-org that we could be a part of.
Downsizing is a potential slippery slope is my point
