Somebody who knows something about this please correct me if wrong, but, if Cal and Stanford voluntarily leave, the PAC 12 conference still exists, and its member schools divvy up roughly $420 million over 5 years starting in 2025.That's currently just us and WSU. And all we have to do is have 6 teams in the conference in 2024 in order to collect the money.
In that case, it would make sense to me to have the Mountain West merge into the PAC 12, rather than vice versa, have OSU and WSU each keep $25 million per year, with the rest being dispersed to the 'new' schools in the conference. I'm not a lawyer, and have no true knowledge or expertise in this area. I'm sure the scenario I just outlined is not the exact way it could or would happen.
But the most important thing right now for Wazzu and us is to retain control of that $420 million and use it as a bargaining chip - a very substantial bargaining chip.
There might be a temptation to cherry pick the top of the Mountain West and perhaps a few others from elsewhere. That would be doing to the bottom tier of the MWC, however, exactly what the Big 10 and Big 12 have done to us, and that would be very distasteful to me.
As this whole thing progresses and I ponder it more and more, I keep thinking of Ed "Too Tall" Jones, who left the Dallas Cowboys many years ago to become a boxer. After 18 months or so, he returned to football. When asked about his time in the boxing world, he opined that never in his life had he encountered so many horrible, sleazy, disgusting people (or words to that effect).
That's how I have come to think of those in the Big 10, Big 12, and the Traitorous 8. The Mountain West may not be Power 5 material, but they're people you'd be happy to be associated with.

Pete Thamel is supposedly the best reporter at ESPN. He could get it wrong, but ESPN is paying him to not get it wrong. It is not like Dodd or McMurphy or some other idiots posing as reporters. Yet Dodd and McMurphy were 100% right and Canzano and others saying the Pac 12 had an acr up their sleeve missed by a country mile Dodd and McMurphy were not 100% right. And Canzano has not been 100% wrong. Dodd and McMurphy and Canzano have slants. Canzano had a more Pac-12 slant and Dodd and McMurphy had an anti-Pac-12 slant.

No, Wilner and Canzano both got played and have egg on their face. I tried to ignore the Big12 Twitter keyboard warriors for almost a year and (unfortunately) it turns out they pretty much had everything correct from the beginning. Guys in their basements had better sources than supposed journalists. Canzano looked down his nose at those rumors and sources, and chose to trust sources in the PAC-12 that were desperate and pitching him bad info. He was too blinded by his allegiance to the PAC-12 to question it.

Unless you are a lawyer and have access to all the documents, I would say all of what you typed is unconfirmable. If you are a lawyer for the 'remaining' pac 12 schools, I bet the departing schools can easily find a lawyer that says you are wrong. After everyone has looked out for themselves and themselves only this past year, it is hard to imagine the same jackasses just giving 4/2 schools $420 million or so out of pity.

This morning on 1080, the AM guys were thinking OSU (& WSU) to the Big 12 is having ESPN pressure the league to invite the Beavs and Cougs in to get a 7:30 pm slot of Big 12 games. An example was to get a draw of OSU vs Kansas State or WSU vs Oklahoma St. This in a region ESPN has zero coverage with current media deals through end of last week. Now, is that reason compelling enough for the Big 12 to act?

And all ua and asu games need to be at night anyway because it is too hot during the day until November.

They are hiring lawyers to figure it all out. The money that Colorado and Nebraska left behind is what helped save the Big 12 from complete destruction back in 2011. Maybe the same thing happens for the Pac-12?

Hopefully, it is what saves Oregon State in the end. A season full of 7 p.m. PT games in Corvallis.

The Big 12 recently renewed contact with four Pac-12 schools -- Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah -- as television contract negotiations for the Pac-12 continue to flounder, sources confirm to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd. March will be a pivotal time for the Pac-12 to either deliver a new contract or risk losing key members of its league
