I was curious about Bazzana, but thanks for the info on Hainline too. If Dernedde doesn’t return, I like Trosky at short. He showed he is capable of holding down that position. And my gut still tells me that Bazz at second is a no-brainer. He’s fast and he has two years’ experience there already. Who do you have at first? Dallas Macias will get a look on the left side of the infield. Krieg or Guerra at first. So like... C Weber/Smith 1st Guerra 2nd Baz SS Hainline 3RD Macias OF MM/Turley/Kasper DH ?? Personally I loved what I saw from Macias in the outfield. Kid flat out made plays. Caraway, Peterson, Cedillo, Reeder, Trosky, and Talt are going to have to work hard for PT if none else moves on.

Most Cape Cod League games are played on high school diamonds, which are a far cry from what he'll play on at OSU and elsewhere. So to some degree errors are less of a concern. And without knowing the total number of chances accepted, four errors is meaningless. Again, as was pointed out on another thread, Dernedde had far fewer errors than Darwin (who played on grass his entire OSU career). Dernedde also had two fewer chances accepted per game (3-5). Darwin had more errors, yes, but he also made 67% more plays per game than Dernedde, and that is a huge number. Those numbers seemed high, so I crunched the numbers. It is more like 1-2 chances accepted per game, and it is closer to one if you focus on chances/start. I also note that Oregon State pitchers set the strikeout record in 2021, broke that record in 2022, and 2023 now ranks third in all-time strikeouts. On average, there were 2-3 fewer defensive chances per game from 2021-2023 than there was from 2005-2007. On top of that, Barney was involved in 117 double plays from 2005-2007. That is more than the 111 total that Oregon State turned from 2021-2023. Dernedde was only involved in 61 of the 111 double plays. That means that the difference between the two is even less than above. The problem here is that there is real no apples-to-apples comparison. Barney played with one of the all-time great groundball pitchers in Buck, and Dernedde played with one of the best flyball/strikeout pitchers in Hjerpe.

No Trosky? I thought he looked good at short. I also liked Dallas in left. Maybe Hainline can hold down 3b. But I’m itching to see Caraway get some playing time.

Good for him, I wish him all the luck and success in the world! BTW, where are you tracking who signs? Do we know how much he signed for? $150K......I know the family Major League Baseball is confirming that Mikey Kane has signed with the White Sox, although they have not reported numbers yet that I can find. Judge Smails said $150K; that is probably correct.

Probably 3rd base

For those playing at home:
Garret Forrester has signed. Mikey Kane has signed.
Ryan Brown has not yet signed. The Athletics are down $977.3K in slot money so far with their first seven signings. The Athletics have to sign their 6th, 7th, 8th, and 10th Rounders for a combined $43K, in order to avoid paying the 75% tax for going over-slot. The 8th- and 10th-Rounders are 22, which may help.
Matt Boyd was a 13th Rounder in 2012 and did not sign. Boyd had not started in three years, but was the ace for 2013.
The Dodgers have not signed anybody yet, so no guesses as to what they are up to.

Talt is an elite athlete. Great speed. If he has a great summer and fall,he could be in the mix for playing time. But where if all the outfielders return? I know they have liked him at catcher, but he has a lot of ground to make up.

They can still sign Brown for 150K, and that won’t affect their bonus pool. Brown’s dad tweeted that Ryan left for Arizona so I’m guessing it won’t be long till he signs…
