Kane has indicated that he wants to sign even if he’s not drafted. We shall see. Dang, now THAT is an odd desire... it isn't like Kane is old, still technically a sophomore, he could come back and have a great year and still have the leverage of being a Junior... Just like I would advise Wilson to sign ASAP, I would advise Kane to come back to school. Unless he gets drafted and a team fines at least 200k to sign you and you are a sophomore, come back to school is the easy choice. I understand that college aint for everyone, but it is better than riding buses in the A league for 500 bucks a month, plus being undrafted or a low draft pick puts you at a sizeable disadvantage when it comes to promotion in the org. Even if you have solid to good years you will still mostly be seen as roster filler, and the guy they drafted / paid $$$ for will always get the benefit of the doubt over you, unless you have crazy good stats. With Dernedde in the portal and Forrester drafted high there is plenty of room in the infield for both Kane and Caraway! Speaking of that… Happy 22nd Birthday Mikey Kane! Hoping all his B-day wishes come true, whether that leads to MiLB or back to Corvallis!

It is not a huge amount, but MiLB salaries are not even close to just $500/month. The new agreement assured huge wage increases that can be paid out thru a calendar year and typically only included 6-8 months of contractual time. Players in the complex leagues will go from making a minimum of $4,800 per year to $19,800 a year. The minimum salary for players in Low-A will go from $11,000 to $26,200. High-A salaries will jump from $11,000 to $27,300. Double-A salaries will go from $13,800 to $30,250. In most cases all MiLB players get free housing, which many will share and pocket the difference. The also get a road per diem, used to be $25/day, for food. Home stands typically do not include a per diem, and long bus rides are mostly fiction as most lower level teams are in close proximity. Most upper levels have travel stipulations that travel over (PCL used to be 500) miles mist be done by air. Bottom line, it's far better than a minimum wage, 40+ hour a week gig, and far better than what most college players get while at school. It's a decently paid "internship" for an opportunity to reach a dream for many. I have never heard too many complain unless they realize they've reached their peak and the dream is gone. Then MiLB can become a dreary "job". Like any other job can become. I am not really arguing... I agree that, especially for the first couple years, I am sure the minor leagues is a ton of fun and seems like a good deal. And yeah I guess my $500/month quip was a bit antiquated. Although I will point out that 26k/year is still only 500/week. I will also point out that my buddies son who works at Taco Bell full time makes almost 31k/year, better than AA For sure if you have limited options (college senior like Sellers or Ferrer) signing on for the minor leagues at any cost is probably the right thing to do... However specifically for Kane that seems like an odd direction to take when you cold come back to school, finish you degree, fight for Omaha, and potentially increase your draft slot and STILL have the leverage as a Junior... It was the " even if undrafted" portion that has me perplexed.

If you have his ear, encourage him to come back! The MiLB will be there next year! I know I know, that is my Orange Colored Heart thinking out loud... He should do what is best for him and only he knows that

Hmmm.... maybe I am wrong... OSUBeavers.com baseball roster has Kane as a Sophomore... But the MLB.com draft tracker has him listed as a "4YR JR" same as Forrester... As far as I can tell he has only played one season for College of the Canyons and one season for OSU... So... is he a draft eligible Sophomore or just a Junior straight up? Does he have 1 or 2 years of eligibility left? Because that would change the calculus on signing or not...

Did Kane lose a year of eligibility somewhere?

Only mentioning because it is relevant to the later-rounds signing issue, but switch-hitting C Kehden Hettiger (and u0 recruit) was drafted in the 11th round #343 overall. MLB has him ranked #177. Worth noting because it seems unlikely the Phillies would use a pick that high unless they are confident he will sign.
As was mentioned, the Beavs have lost a recruit drafted in 18th round previously when the team saved bonus money elsewhere, so still have to get thru the 20th round!
Edit: And right after my initial post, Oregon City RHP Dane Lais goes to Padres late in the 13th, #401 overall 🤬

Looking at the Padres signing tracker from 2022, they selected 4 high school guys in the 11th to 20th rounds. Only signed 1 of them. So, no guarantees what happens with Lais. They may just be trying to save up money to get their 12th round guy, Blake Dickerson, enough to sign. He was ranked #158. If they pick a bunch more high schoolers, I think Lais could still end up on campus.

Dane Lais just went #401 in 13th round to San Diego.... Kind of surprised he was picked before DeCremer, Palmer and Segurea all of whom were projected higher... The other three must be signaling signablity issues?

Pretty amazing that so far only Wilson, Forrester and Lais have been drafted!
Lets go beavs!

They only failed to sign one of those guys. So...he may be gone.
