I take it UCLA is eliminated with their 6-4 loss to USC, and their game tomorrow against Washington will be the last for the season. Correct. 7-9 seeds have to go 2-0 to make it in semis The seven seed (UCLA) is the worst team that can go 1-1 and still make the Semifinal. They would need to beat Washington, have USC beat Washington, have Oregon State win out, and have California finish as the only 1-1 team in Group A. Basically, UCLA would need each of the final six results work out perfectly to advance as the wildcard. The eight and nine seeds have to go 2-0 to advance.

Would still like ucla to beat uw. UCLA up 7-1 in the third. I wouldn't have said it before Arizona won, but, hopefully, the home teams sweep today.

Teams into the Semifinal:
8. Arizona. Arizona plays in Semifinal night game.
Teams that have been eliminated:
7. UCLA 9. Cal
Teams that are still alive for the Semifinal:
1. Stanford 0-0 2. Oregon State 0-1 3. Washington 0-0 4. USC 1-0 5. Arizona State 0-1 6. Oregon 1-0
Stanford advances with one win.
Oregon State advances with a win over Arizona State AND
1. A California win over Stanford OR 2. Stanford wins over both California and Oregon.
Washington advances with a win over USC OR a win over UCLA AND an Arizona State win over Oregon State AND
1. A California win over Stanford OR
2. Stanford wins over both California and Oregon.

Actually, giantkillers83 now that I think about it, I am rooting for Washington to win, because it would definitively eliminate Arizona State. Plus, to hell with UCLA. 7-2 UCLA in the fourth.

View AttachmentMid 7 and UW has ZERO chance of winning...Sure they are down big but ZERO chance? Mercy rule. Game's over. UCLA was Washington's throwaway game, and the Huskies treated it like one. Bad result. It keeps Arizona State's slim chances at making it in as the wildcard alive. Go Cal!

Makes sense...didn't know they still did that rule outside of little league We won the UC Santa Barbara game 11-0 in eight this year. Guerra doubled to score Turley and Bazzana. 11-0 the final with two runners in scoring position with one out in the eighth. It seems to be a more common thing in other parts of the country.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. Are we seriously going to watch the top three seeds fall in their first games?

Maybe we should take a cue from the War Games WOPR. “The only winning move is not to play.”
Go home, rest up, get ready for the real action. The conference tourneys are stupid money grubbing charades that probably don’t even make much money. Jesus, how many games should these kids play?

The conference tourneys are stupid money grubbing charades that probably don’t even make much money. Jesus, how many games should these kids play? The Championship Game earns enough money by itself to make the conference money. If every other conference stopped doing them, you could justify the Pac-12 not doing it, as well. But you get killed in RPI (even more than the Pac-12 already gets killed) without one. Basketball realized this only in 2002. Baseball just realized it. Unless you can get rid of RPI, you have to play a Tournament. You simply are not going to get a fair shake without one.
