Freshman Taylor didn't play much. Last year he played ok on a crappy team, this year he was the 2nd best player on the team. Bottom line... inferior rosters can't afford to lose a starter! This is not a program where there is talent pushing talent for floor time. The talent was already lacking, losing experienced depth is a huge deal for a roster like OSU's. The depth is likely taking a hit as compared to what "could have been" with Taylor still on the roster. We're not over yet in the portal, maybe even with freshman recruits (I think Ibekwe was announced September 16th of '22). It'll be interesting to see how next season looks once it actually happens. The Beavs lost Tres, Alfred and Kylor all in one off-season, each arguably at least as consequential as Taylor, and went to the elite 8. It ain't over til it's over.

Taylor was the third-worst defensive player on the team ahead of only Akanno and Krass. Offensively, you can easily make the case that he was better than everyone but Pope and Rataj.

Taylor is nowhere near Hollins, Kelley, or Tinkle. Kelley and Tinkle were the two best players from that 2019-20 team. Pulling Alatishe, Andela, and Calloo out of nowhere was the key to 2021. Alatishe elevated everyone else's game. Lucas, Thompson, Reichle, Silva, Hunt, and Tucker showed such a tremendous one-year improvement, it was ridiculous.

Losing Taylor is not the death knell for the program. I was being understated when I said arguably at least as consequential. I expect big improvement from a bunch of the remaining kids, assuming they remain. Hopefully there will be 2-3 or more new significant contributors next year as well.

We lost four starters from the 2021-22 team (Lucas, Davis, Silva, Alatishe) and improved by eight games.

When you say third worst defensive player, what are you basing that on? I know Pom gives offensive ratings but how do you approximate defensive?

Defensive +/- Defensive +/- is supposed to be a measurement of how good a player plays defense, when compared to an average Pac-12 basketball player. Akanno, Krass, and Taylor are the only three players with a negative defensive +/- And two of those guys are now gone.

Akanno, Krass, and Taylor are the only three players with a negative defensive +/- And two of those guys are now gone. Not arguing whether those 3 were our worst defenders, but what exactly does that system measure to come up with its ratings? Is it just drebs, blocks and steals? If so, while certainly a useful tool, not certain how accurate it would be for complete assessment of defensive play. If it incorporates things shooting % and points scored by offensive opponent player when a player is closest defender, I always wonder how completely accurate that part can be. Also, if you’re guarding the other team’s best offensive player, wouldn’t your rating take a hit. And how do they handle those when team is playing a zone? I probably didn’t watch closely enough, but never really thought of Taylor as a particularly good or bad defender. Tinkle taking him out of starting lineup could certainly support that his defense wasn’t up to snuff, but could have been because of or in part because of his propensity for making wild drives to hoop and Ill advised shots. I don’t think losing Taylor is the death knell for next season, but some posters seem to want to think it isn’t a big hit for this team. For a team that’s strength is D but struggles offensively, you can live with a player with some poor D but brings some offense. Just have to wait and see who we bring in and how big a jump the holdover players make. But I’d feel better overall if Taylor was still here. Wilky — I am truly interested in knowing what that system incorporates to come up with its ratings. Thanks.

Maybe he'll get some NIL money from this prominent Queens restaurant. He'll be coached by a fine molder of men, and learn where all the strip clubs are.

He'll certainly gain some used car salesman knowledge from slime ball Pitino.

Pitino has his issues, but he is a good coach. With a whole new roster, Taylor will have a good opportunity. And the Johnnies seem to have a fair amount of NIL cash, so he probably did OK there too. Nothing wrong with that. Wish him the best.
Anyone hearing anything in regards to who will fill the final roster spot?

Good basketball mind.....bad human......there's a handful of current coaches in that group.

No. But from a basketball stand point, I can think of a lot of coaches and situations that would be worse for a player.
