What did Taylor say about the program? She said she wasn't taken care of mentally and physically. Her last year here she played in 9 games before she had season ending surgery.

Yes the win loss record is a fact but you are so set on it being Rueck's fault and refuse to even acknowledge there have been other things going on. Covid and the lack of ability to travel and the portal are two obvious changes. Missing games is another, one year we only had a game or two in the entire month of December. Those are the games used to prepare for the conference games. Losing two coaches and another important staff member could play a role as well. As for the transfers, I've already given possible reasons for them to leave. Sasha left to be closer to home for a medical reason that forced her to leave the game completely. Savannah left to get more playing time and because her mom took exception to Rueck saying her shooting is a work in progress, which is accurate. Aleah was drafted into the wnba and while she didn't make it I can't fault her for the attempt. Taya graduated and went to play on a team her friend is on staff. Greta went closer to home. Kennedy didn't like playing the 5 even though that is where the team needed her. Taylor is playing closer to home, she is the only one to say anything negative about the program. There are a lot of teams that lost players to the portal, well over 1000 each year. believeinthebeavs
Thanks for your well stated response.
I do believe that many of the factors that you listed would be the same for all teams (Covid, Portal, missing games).
From my point of view (which you have been less than complimentary about! (grin)) with the exception of Sasha all of the players you named choose to play somewhere else rather than continue to play for the Beavers when they still had the opportunity to do so.
That coupled with the recent win/loss records is a very damning statement about the condition the OSU WBB is currently in.
As I stated in a previous post, Gonzaga WBB program which is similar in many ways to the Beavs, has had, I believe, zero portal transfers out .
Go Beavs!
P.S. If my information is correct, already this year a player on the team that could play I believe two more years (Jelena) for the Beavers is choosing not to do so. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Noelle could play yet another year for the Beavers and is choosing not to do so?
You give 1 program without transfers, there are 341 d1 schools last year and 43 this year so far that have had at least one transfer out.

Not sure how to link but go to page 7 of Bernice's place and go down to Taylor to the portal. She says that she needs to do what's best for her mental and physical health and transfer out. It is on her Instagram. You were the second person to write on the thread. I took it to mean that she didn't feel this needs were being met at OSU.

You were the second person to write on the thread That may be just a simple matter of a young person leaving home to get away from everything associated with the traumatic death of her mom, now after a period of time away, wanting to be closer to family and friends (and having that opportunity via the portal). And there's nothing Scott Rueck can do about that. Everything that we don't like does not necessarily have sinister motives. And as hard as it for some folks to conceive - some things are more important than sports.

Noelle has another year, but has stated that she is done. Jelena has two more years, but has not yet made a decision on returning. Judge Smails,
Thank you sir! It was my understanding that both of them by celebrating Senior Day had determined that they would not be returning to OSU.
How were you able to determine that Jelena had not yet made a decision?

You can participate in Senior Day and still come back. We had that happen with a couple of football players this year. There's an article in the Gazette Times today that says she is undecided, but Noelle is done.

Again Thank you!
I would be very interested to view your predictions on (a) how many and which players you believe might transfer.
Also (b) assuming that no players transfer and all the current players plus Jelena and the two freshmen from the state of Oregon comprise the roster for next year, your prediction on where the Beavers would finish in the PAC12 standings.

And I have intentionally left out my personal ideas or opinions since I don't want to post anything that could be considered negative without any way to back it up.

Predicting portal transfers is a futile exercise. You won't know until it happens. Still think they need a better PG through to portal to move into the upper half of the Pac 12. Neither one of the recruits are true PG's and I don't think Martha is the answer (although she is a serviceable back-up)

How many of us have been a D1 College Basketball player? The season lasts (on a good year (July-April)... 10 months of workouts, practices, games, injuries, film, playbook learning, blood, sweat and tears. I honestly suggest some of you take a break from grinding on why a 5 year master's degree graduate (Noelle) and away from home completed 4 years of college (Jelena) have chosen to move on with their lives. I know Jelena is possibly "undecided". Can we just for a minute be thankful for what we have? Be gracious about how much effort the players have put into this team? GO BEAVS! sewingbeaver,
Clearly stated and your points are well made.
You are certainly correct that there may be many reasons why players would transfer other than to go play basketball at another school.
However, as I stated in a previous post virtually all the players that have transferred from OSU (with the exception of Sahsa) went on to play basketball somewhere else. Also, we do not know for certain that Noelle and Jelena (if indeed she is not coming back) will not be playing somewhere else.
You are certainly accurate in your statement about all the hardships involved in being a Division 1 player. That is one side of the coin. The other side is clearly that (a) very few women ever get the chance to play the sport they love at the D1 level, and (b) you have one opportunity to do so (i.e. you can not come back 10 years later and play).
The fact that players transfer elsewhere clearly indicates they want to continue playing just not at OSU.
My position on this issue has never been and never will be to criticize the players for transferring.
My position is that other various factors in the program (Coaching, assistant coaches, player development, training, medical, etc, etc.) have changed in ways that have caused the program's steep decline.
"Denial" is an easy path to take. Unfortunately it often results in bad results. As a really old guy, I can look back at ,I believe, an over 20 year run of OSU football being unbelievably bad!

Noelle is done with college basketball. She is going to try and play professionally overseas.

It would be a shame given the talent on the roster now to not take the opportunity to move up in the standings next year.
However given SR's previous history in both recruiting point guards and/or obtaining them through the portal, we may be in for more poor records. .
