Oversimplified. Arizona St., Cal and Washington were all MUCH better when OSU was winning the conference than they are now. Stanford has re-emerged as a beast, but throughout the conference there has been some reshuffling of the deck. To say everybody is better now couldn't possibly be further from the truth. Of course, I didn't say everyone is better now. But go ahead and oversimplify it. Okay, "the other conference programs were down relative to where they are now" is exactly what you said. Prove it. I don't agree. Some are better, some are worse, I think it's pretty close to evening out.

Here's the deal. Barnes gave Rueck a contract extension through 2031 with a significant raise. The timing is now looking to be absolutely terrible unless Rueck can make some sort of miracle turnaround this season. It's looking more and more like the program is going to bottom out. If that happens, there will be defections. Players want to play for a team that wins and a coach they can believe in. This could become a nightmare scenario. My question is will Barnes even bother to address the situation if it does get to that point?

It mirrors the women’s basketball program.

Barnes seems to like to give long extensions to basketball coaches.

I'm struck by how far DOWN in quality play the team has descended this year. Pretty glaring. Fundamentals suck. Defensive awareness sucks. These ladies should be IMPROVING, but the opposite is happening. There doesn't seem to be ANY sense of urgency by players OR (and more importantly) staff. Something "ain't" right.

Swept by the Washington schools… pathetic no matter what way you spin it. Scott needs to step it up.

These ladies should be IMPROVING, but the opposite is happening. There doesn't seem to be ANY sense of urgency by players OR (and more importantly) staff. Something "ain't" right. Most of it is on Rueck and the staff. But I when you really step back and look at the roster objectively, it's just not very strong, in comparison to both the current Pac-12 teams and any other roster that Rueck has put together. Sure, there's the two big recruits in Beers and Gardiner. They've been pretty good but they are both freshmen. TVO hasn't had a particularly good season for her but she's obviously a good player. But there's just no clear-cut four, five and six players that good to great teams have. I guess Yeaney would be the closest fit because of her athleticism and speed, but she seems to lack the overall polish that would have bumped her up a level. After that there's not a lot of standout athletic ability or speed or general skill sets that lift anyone past midlevel. A better coach and staff would get more out of this group, IMO. Maybe a lot more. But it's not really a very good roster after the top 3-4 to the bottom.

I don't think Barnes will do a thing. As long as he isn't pulling a LaVonda Wagner dumpster fire he fits the family image at OSU

If don’t turn around immediately, I think SR will need to resign and walk away like CGA. I am afraid that Beers Gardiner and TVO will transfer out to a winning program at the end of season. Need to make adjustments fast. Beers and Gradiner need to be the starters and play maximum minutes.
Barnes made a mistake for extension contract of 10 years. Now 8 years left.

I think it’s time to have an ALL PLAYERS meeting, no coaches, have a knock down, drag out session about roles, defense, intensity etc. lots of new faces this year, not ready to hit the panic button, but close, way too much talent on this team to be playing this poorly, let’s turn it up gals, we have faith, GO BEAVS

As long as he isn't pulling a LaVonda Wagner dumpster fire he fits the family image at OSU I tend to agree with you on Barnes. His decision to extend Rueck so many years seemed to me as if he was just rewarding the Final Four appearance and that now he wouldn't have to bother to think about women's basketball moving forward. The Wagner dumpster fire was unusual on so many levels and basically an anomaly. We haven't reached dumpster fire level at this point (as bad as this weeked was). But if Rueck can't pull the team out of the dive and the season crashes and burns, then we'll see. What if there are major defections? What if those players that everyone expects the program to build on all leave? I really hope that doesn't happen but I can't sit here and say it wouldn't. It's not lost on me that OSU had the anomaly that was the Wagner dumpster fire might have another anomaly in a coach that took a team to the Final Four and fell to the basement of the conference seven years later.

Barnes seems to like to give long extensions to basketball coaches. Easy to do and easy to agree with when times are good Times they ain't good right now... Except that Barnes extended Rueck last year...

A couple of reasons for the decline are imo, our period of elite success was when the other conference programs were down relative to where they are now, and the past few years transfers have become much more important in college basketball and OSU has generally been a net loser in this area. That comment you just made is plain nuts. Are you implying that this team just plain sucks right now. Why not come out and say it?

Everyone needs to cool off and remember 2 of our top 4 players are true freshman...that were top 10 recruits...that all stops if Rueck leaves. Does anyone else recall any other true freshman playing at this level to start with? We've had terrible luck with covid, transfers and injuries...what I saw with aj, Talia, Reagen and Timea today looks like an amazing core to me.
