TVO just happens to be in a bit of a funk (like most players experience), which will not last. She is not a good player - she is an excellent player who is definitely not a point guard - she has as much as said so in interviews, saying that she prefers to to play guard off the ball. So feed her the ball on the perimeter, let her crash the paint with her strength - it's all good. Don't look at a couple of games - look at the body of work. Some people have all-too-short memories. What people need to consider is that a player who averages 18 doesn't score that many every night. She'll have X number of games at 25 and (a mathematical certainty) an equal number at 11. Talia's no different. You all remember last year when we struggled mightily in conference to score points. Defenses just keyed on Talia because nobody else could put the ball in the hole. When they do that, others are guarded more loosely and somebody needs to step up. Last year, nobody stepped. Now, this year, that's starting to change, as evidenced by Alexis' big first half several days ago, AJ's on Friday, and Raegan's very steady contributions night in and night out. Talia doesn't need to score a bunch for us to have a chance to win, but she's averaging 15.9. There's a very important point that hasn't been made much on this board. What you want to see in a team, from conference champs to cellar dwellers, is steady improvement over the course of a season. Frankly, we didn't see that at OSU the last 2 or 3 years, but I think we'll agree that we're starting to see it now. We're not going to win conference, but I believe we're going to be competitive every night. And, if Timea starts playing on Friday as advertised, and she's what we all expect her to be, by the time the conference tournament starts, we're going to be that team nobody wants to play. If we get into the NCAA tournament (I'm still hopeful of that), we'll be a tough out. Just need to get those turnovers under control. Let's win 2 next weekend at Gill and go from there.

Yeah, you are right on just about everything. But that doesn't mean Findlaybandbeav is wrong about TVO's slump. She's definitely in one. I would say that's not uncommon for people to believe that TVO is an 18-points a game-type scorer. The reality is that she never has been and, in fact, has never been close. She averaged 11.3 points a game in 20-21 and 13.7 last season. She is up to 15.9 this season, but there's an asterisk with that, IMO. One point is that she has scored 20 or more points in four games. 20 vs.Seattle; 22 vs. Iowa; 32 vs. Eastern Washington and 41 vs. Nevada. The 73 points in the latter two games skews the numbers up a bit, but does count, of course. But her scoring in every other game this season has been below her average. But that leads to another point: She had three of four big scoring games against lesser competition. Iowa was an outlier. She had 9 vs. Duke and 14 vs. LSU. But her even her scoring against the remainder of the lesser nonconference competition on the schedule hasn't been above her average: 14 vs. Hawaii; 12 vs. Prairie View; 15 vs. Southern; 9 vs. Jackson State and 11 vs. North Carolina Central. And now in Pac-12 play, TVO is averaging 10.25 points a game: 12 vs. UO; 7 vs. USC; 12 vs. UA and 10 vs. ASU. Maybe we expect too much out of her in the first place, but she does seem to be in a slump. I will add that Beers has stepped into the offensive go-to role. On paper, that should open things up more for TVO and others. Hasn't really yet, but hopefully it will.

TVO does have a nagging injury. Will play through it this year and get it taken care of after the season. It’s not that it needs immediate attention. Can say no more.

OK, but it clearly isn't a big concern, if it's true. She is averaging 31.5 minutes a game, more than anyone else. Are you implying that her play isn't as good as normal because she has something going on? It seems like it would be a matter of maybe playing through some pain at the most, because there's no way she would be allowed to play if there was a chance of further damage or a worse injury maybe caused by the issue. Her shot looks essentially the same, it's not as if she's missing badly on open looks when they don't go down and her range looks normal. Maybe it's getting into her head somewhat.

No..I'm not implying that at all. I don't think there is a lot of pain nor a chance of further damage....but I'm not her or the team trainer!

Wouldn't want her to feel like she has to grind it out and be in pain every game and practice. Hope she gets everything fixed when the season is over

Thanks for the info beav74....as many posters have mentioned she does not seem at 100% out there....She is a tough cookie though and is doing her best to help this team win despite her "nagging injury".

TvO is important to our team. Just want to see TvO make better decisions, nothing more. grayman made an interesting observation...Rueck's line-ups during the course of a game seem to be made without consideration of the opponents line-up. In the ASU game, we had our slowest players on the floor when ASU had 5 players all quicker/faster than the players on our team. ASU immediately staged a comeback to take us from a 16 point lead down to 4 point lead. As far as breaking the press, our best ball handler and dribbler was on the bench when ASU was causing havoc. Why Martha is not in the game when we need to break the press is beyond me. Martha is our best ball handler and is quick to dribble away from the pressure before pressure collapses and traps. Both TvO and even Bendu don't dribble away from pressure giving the defense the necessary time to trap. I'm sure breaking the press (staring with inbounding the ball) will be an emphasis in practice this week. It was an ugly win, but a win. I do believe the team is getting better. Lastly, I want to see Raegan in the starting line-up. Not only does Raegan deserve it, but OSUs odds of stomping on the opponent from the outset improves. GO BEAVS!

I expect Rueck will keep starting Mitrovic purely for the tip-off. Mitrovic is not winning all the tips at the beginning of the games. I don't think that would be a valid reason to keep Mit as a starter?

Mit should be coming off the bench and probably playing fewer minutes to allow more for Beers at this point (with exception of the time they spend on the court together). Beers is not only a better player on the offensive end, she's more mobile as well...that allows for cleaner rebounds and better transition on both ends of the floor.
