You have to be some kind of moron to not know that taking drugs into other countries (edit: especially dictatorships) can be extremely dangerous.
Good for her that she's out, but the US (and the world) is a little less safe with the release of Viktor Bout. This was a bad deal.

I'm disappointed in this because there are other Americans being held who don't play sports so they won't get special consideration from the government.
I get the irony of posting this here on this message board, but the US has a sports problem.

Bout was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2012. In announcing the sentence, Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, described Bout as "international arms trafficking enemy No. 1 for many years." Bharara said Bout had armed some of the most violent conflicts around the world.
"He was finally brought to justice in an American court for agreeing to provide a staggering number of military-grade weapons to an avowed terrorist organization committed to killing Americans
Griner career stats 17.7 points, 7.6 rebounds
Seems like we should have gotten a player to be named later in the deal

If I was her I would say... please keep me in jail

Griner was lawfully imprisoned for something that she admitted that she did. The fact that Griner got out has everything to do with basketball, which is just depressing. Trading a terrorist for a basketball player, leaving other Americans behind? And two days after the election in Georgia? Incredibly weak, short-sighted, and stupid. But that seems to be a consistent theme the last 20 months. Oh well. There will be brighter days ahead..........There has to be, even if it is only by dumb luck.

Paul Whelan was charged and convicted by russia during the prior administration. Since some think the prior guy was so strong and smart why didn't he get Whelan out?

I'm always happy when American citizens given ridiculous prison sentences following their conviction on trumped up charges at a show trial are released by war-mongering dictatorships.

I’m going to avoid diving into the political cesspool on this one. I will only say that this little sports story is quite the Rorschach test. Oh and.. Merry Xmas everyone!
