My son and daughter-in-law are doing this for the game.
Last spring we drove down through Oakridge, K. Falls, and Reno. We are old so we overnighted in Reno. Not sure I would do it in winter though unless everything looks clear.

Silly question. The last bowl I went to was a long time ago. Is there a spot on the OSU website through which alumni should purchase tickets? Should I get these through the LVBowl website? (Wanted to make sure it doesn't help OSU in some small way. I didn't see anything on the athletic website.) Try this: x.paciolanmail.com/ats/msg.aspx?sg1=fa3a9c04fcafbda9cc268dce5f43e7c5

The above is something that irks me about the athletic department. Ticket availability should be a priority on page one of their website and every article about the bowl on it.
They used to have to practically buy their way into bowl games with ticket purchase commitments that they pay out of pocket for if they don't meet it, I assume that probably hasn't changed, and yet they make this info hard to find.
For some reason I no longer get emails, but my wife does, so we knew about Thursday. Putting it on their website and bowl articles would go a long way towards selling tix in house.

So for those who want to go but have been cowed by ticket prices, another option may be by going early if you can swing the time away.
For a while at least, maybe even now, going Thursday was cheaper than Friday even with the hotel figured in. The flights and hotel I booked jumped dramatically between the time I booked it and now, but a flight and hotel schedule Wednesday through Monday is substantially less expensive than shorter alternatives. I haven't checked Wednesday through Tuesday, but the big price mover from seems to be those busy flight days around the game as far as booking out of PDX goes.

After getting thoroughly frustrated by the airline shenanigans and price gouging, I decided I needed to be at this game bad enough that I would drive down there from Portland. I mean I have the next two weeks off after all.....Will leave work early on Friday and drive through the night with my (almost) 19 year old son....we can switch off driving. And I get the occasional road soda. Them changing the game time really screwed things up a bit, but we will make do. Looks like about a 16 hour drive time. Anyone else made this trip before? I'm seeing differing routes suggested, but looks to me like crossing over into eastern Oregon and taking Hwy 95 all the way down is the best bet. A two lane road through some of the loneliest land in America, haha. Looking forward to it, honestly...avoid some of the airport hustle and bustle, cut a some costs and hopefully make it a fun trip...maybe hit Red Rocks on way back or Death Valley. BeavaBleeda may join, although he a bit soft...probably flying. I'll report back some updates, but anyone that's ,made the drive before feel free to chime in. Go Beavs! I would not take that route in the winter!....I made the mistake of doing it many years ago in January and despite the mid 40's temps here in the valley when I left----the temp hovered between 0 and 10* the entire way once I got into Eastern Or. all the way into mid Nevada and there was packed snow on the road nearly to mid Nevada keeping my max. speed to about 35mph. I counted over 30 vehicles either abandoned or in the ditch on my way and elevations reached over 6,000ft if memory serves me correctly. The trip took me twice as long as it should have and I forgot to mention the deer hazard after dark---I nearly hit 2 and the only thing that saved me was my low driving speed. If you are going to drive I would just bite the bullet and take the safe route down I-5 and then over to Vegas from So. Calif.---might take you 20 hrs. but it would be much safer!

The route I prefer is going I-5 to the Mount Shasta area and take the cut-off there to Reno and then on to Vegas. Again I just don't know about doing this in winter. Just be sure to get good updates on road conditions so you can take alternate routes if necessary!

Yeah I've done that road before, but that one seemed even more precarious at night and with possible ice....was hoping for eastern route just cause usually drier, albeit cold...not sure what the elevation is down through most of it....need to check again...plus I'm so sick of the same ol' I-5 ramble, which is more predictable of course, but ugh so boring mostly.

I'll echo what folks are saying here. Travel conditions matter enormously. In summer the fastest route from the mid willamette valley is 20 to Bend and then Burns. South on 95(?) to Winnemucca. East for a few miles to Battle Mountain then south through Austin and Tonopah. If you are delayed a small amount on the Santiam it's still a winner. But if you have to go 45 mph or so because of potential ice it sucks. For bad weather, I take 5 south to Bakersfield then the Tehachapi to Barstow and come in on the 15. Susanville and Reno can be the same problems as Burns and Winnemucca.

Lot of people in Benny’s House so soft. Ice, cows, deers, etc.
Maybe Bleeda just an idiot degen. Chain up? Have dude in passenger seat be on watch out for deers and cows while sipping the bourbon or gin and juice? Like Snoop Dog would say, “Laid back”
Bleeda and Bleeda Jr flying in on Wednesday and staying four nights. Tempted to ride in car with BeaverDreams, but we got side trip planned to Red Rocks.
Beavs -10 vs Florida fourth string quarterback. All my bookies advising 5star play and get action in early before the 1/2pt hook comes. Bleeda going 100 NoodleNickels. 5DIMES.

For a relatively inexpensive hotel near the stadium try Priceline.com and then look for the OYO Hotel and Casino. The trick is to do this as early as you can in the morning. Have been monitoring the prices and they go up every afternoon and then go back down the next morning. Less than $100 per night (all fees including the effing resort fee) in the morning and twice that at least in the afternoon or evening. The OYO is right across the street (Tropicana) from the MGM Grand and is within walking distance to the stadium (1.5 miles) or a short Uber. Free parking at the hotel too. That said the wife and I are staying at the Hampton Inn Tropicana but for significantly higher price for those booking now.

I’m booking on Airbnb to avoid resort fees. MGM Signature has kitchen, soaking tub, balcony, lots of square feet, and Mountain Views. 1.8 mile walk to stadium and 1/3 mile walk to MGM Casino. Avoid the middle man and the juice! Leaves more $$$ for me to scoop SEC honk Florida fan in the poker rooms from midnight-6am. And Bleeda loves to walk. In 2019 I walked from Mexico to Canada 2,653 miles. Colorado Trail this summer 486 miles. I’m not wired like you guys.
Ship it! Pay dat man his money!

Fly in Friday at 1130ish pm. Staying at Excalibur. Fly back Sunday morning.
When will OSU let us know if we are awarded the seats we applied for? I was just mashing keys like an idiot when I ordered mine the moment after I got the email, and didn't really read it lol.
