Nice to hear Ron Callan ask Bendu and Raegan about Martha's progress. Whoever posted "SCRAP the starting 5" is genius. Can't come out against UO and get 10 points behind in the first quarter. Time to start our best 5.

I've got nothing against starting the best 5. Who would that be?

I’m leaning towards Martha, Bendu, Talia, AJ and Raegan. It’s a smaller line up but quick.

The defense today was really impressive. Bendu was so active on that end. She's got lightning quick hands and great instincts. She pushes the ball and got OSU in some advantage situations in transition. This team has done a solid job of keeping opponents of the free throw line.
Jelena and Raegan had solid days against good competition in the post (Angel Jackson was a decent PAC-12 post player).
Rough shooting days for Bendu, Talia, and AJ.
I think the best starting five may be: Talia, Martha, Bendu, Raegan, and Jelena. I'd probably start Shalexxus over Raegan just to have a big coming off the bench. AJ seems to be two very different players against quality competition versus the weaker opponents.

We've gone down the road before about starters vs. minutes. I think TVO, Bendu, Beers, Aaron, Mit, Marotte and Pietsch should be getting the most minutes. Followed by Mannen and then the freshmen (but getting more time than they did earlier on). You find the best combinations therein and move forward, at least until Timea is able to play and gets up to speed.

Yeah, it's becoming more and more evident that Pietsch should get more minutes and that what Bendu brings to the court is invaluable and really can't be matched. Obviously that means fewer minutes for Mannen as time goes on. I'm fine with that. I really think Mannen is best in the role of a spark off the bench. She can jump in with her energy and scrappy play and lift the team if things are kind of getting bogged down or whatever. It potentially could be a very important role for her as well. I am totally with you on this grayman and I made a similar comment a few games ago. I don't get the coach starting Mannen---sure she's scrappy and full of energy out there but her shooting % is woeful this year. Martha is the better overall player and quicker than Mannen. If we aren't going to start AJ then it should be Martha---just not Mannen: comparison of their stat lines today is pretty telling isn't it! 04 Mannen,Noelle * 13 0-1 0-1 0-0 0-2 2 0 0 0 0 1 0 31 Pietsch,Martha 27 5-7 2-3 2-3 2-2 4 1 4 2 0 1 14 Obviously the coach knows this as he gave her 27 min. compared to 13 for Mannen but just start her please so we don't keep falling in big holes early in these games!

Well, Rueck spoke highly of Pietsch after Thursday's game. I think he was just biding his time a little bit with her, but I think he is going to start playing her more and more. I think he's been comfortable with Mannen, maybe a little bit too much so, but it's not like he's not noticing Pietsch's good play and he did play her more Saturday

I bet that Scott started Mannen in an attempt to get some quick energy at the start. It didn't work. There is no question that Pietsch is the better player.
Were my wife and I the only ones guessing that Talia had the flu? She sure didn't look like her normal self.
Starters: Martha, Bendu, Shalexxus, Talia, Jelena. First off the bench: Raegan, AJ. Favorite Lineup: Martha, Bendu, Talia, Raegan, Jelena

The coaches mentioned in the radio pre-game that Jackson St. is a very good rebounding team and rebounding had been a focus point in their preparation. I think the Beavs did pretty well in that regard. Also, turnovers were pretty low, considering how athletic Jackson St. is. Another plus… we held Angel Jackson in check. I was surprised at how much they played #11 (the big eyelashes) in her place; she really wasn’t very good. Seems like Jackson is in good shape and should have been able to play most of the game. There were a few minutes (I think in the 1st half) when the Beavers were impressively whipping the ball around and getting the open shots. That would have been great if they were hitting them; maybe that’s why that style didn’t last very long. Perhaps Lily should have been given a few minutes to take advantage of the good ball movement. Overall, I’m seeing improvement. Not sure if it is enough to compete with TDSR. Turnovers were pretty low? We had 15 of them, second most this year (Duke - 20). I don't think this team can compete in conference without Gardiner playing and living up to her billing as Beers has done. I also think we're most effective when both Beers and Mitrovic are on the floor.

" This team has done a solid job of keeping opponents of the free throw line" Number 1 in the country in least fouls/fouling rate.

I hadn't seen the final statistics... just going by what I saw (TO's didn't stand out... so maybe not so many stupid ones). I think several of them came in a bunch towards the end when JSU pressed... so maybe that's what put them 2-3 over what is common in the women's game.

If you were Oregon State, who would you nominate as the Beavs rep for Freshman of the week this week? Raegan again averaged a double double. Martha had 24 points, 10 assist, and I believe (without officially looking it up) 8 rebounds. Before the season, I never thought Martha would be in that discussion. Good for her. She really had a couple nice games. I'm happy to admit I under estimated what she could bring to the team as a freshman.
