I don't understand why jelena gets a pass. She literally and physically towered over everyone on the court. yet based on comments from those that attended she often brought the ball down to the same level as others on the court. It's a bad habit that is going to hurt when bigger, better, stronger, quicker players are around. " jelena gets a pass"? Seems to me like we hammered her enough. I think the problem was that in practice she hasn't been swarmed as in this game and so she didn't react very well. My hope is that she will be gently reminded on what to do/not do in that situation and be given some practice with that in mind. As has been mentioned the season is young and mistakes will be made. It's how people recover from the mistakes, or not, that will determine how the season goes.

Thanks to everyone who has commented on the game. Reality is that we can't learn much from this game. With three players who are probably in your top 6 or 7 out, it's not easy to learn anything about this team. A good OSU team should have won this game by 40, but again, this wasn't the team we will see most of the season. Good to see Raegan do what she's done all through High School....grabbing rebounds. I've said it before, but I think she is going to be a monster. I'd like to envision her putting up Maegan Huff type numbers, but she probably won't ever put up those scoring numbers playing for the Beavs, but I think we can count on the rebounds. Good to see Lily was not afraid to put up her shots. I don't know that we can compare her to Kat, but I do think she is going to get plenty of opportunities putting up the 3 for the Beavs, and maybe sooner than I anticipated. Greybeav has shared with me a few times how Lily's HS coach didn't really use her correctly. I think he was mostly concerned with his own daughter, but this game gives hope that Lily knows her basketball and will have every chance to leaver her mark at Oregon State. The first time I saw Adlee play, I said she was a top 50 player. After her injury, I haven't seen the same great film. Hopefully, she will get her shot here. We all know she's another one who can shoot lights out when she is on a roll. As for AJ, as a freshman she was much more aggressive than Greta (a shot every 3.1 minutes to Greta's every 3.8 minutes). I hope she keeps that up as long as the shooting percentage is good. This was a good start for her Sophomore season. I should say non-start, since this game and these stats don't officially count. Based on Sunday's game, I would expect the Beavs to lose at home to Hawaii in their opener on Monday. The early word sounds like Timea and Bendu will both be out, but until they return, it's hard to read this team. If the Beavs win by 15 or more Monday, I'll feel pretty good about where they are at in the early going. Talia is good enough to carry this team in many matches. We'll see if that is needed next game. Sorry, but it's just not reasonable to predict a loss next Monday based upon the exhibition game. Coach Rueck will not coach the first counting game the way he coached an exhibition game. The substitution pattern will be different and he'll keep his best defensive players on the court for more minutes. The team will also get a lot out of the game film from which to make improvement (in particular Jelena). My biggest concern for Monday is at point guard, where I think we are at risk if we only have Noelle and Martha; their height, reach and quickness are all short of what we need at that position to make the most of the other talent we have. It will be interesting to see who starts at PG; I'm hoping Bendu is back and starts at PG. Without Bendu, I suspect he will start Noelle because of her knowledge of the system, though I think athletically, Martha would have the edge. The other option, which is probably better, is to start Talia at PG and include Shallexus at the other guard position.

I may not be reasonable, but I would still expect a loss next Monday if everything were the same as Sunday. There will be changes....Shalexxus should play, maybe Timea or Bendu. Players will know more what to expect. Hawaii is no WOC though. The Beavs have a week to get it together. Let's hope they do. I will say, I love this team. I love the way they seem to be binding. I hope for the best, but I won't be surprised if this team is somewhat like 2012/2013, but I also believe that they could be like 2013/2014 next year.....if the transfer portal doesn't doom them.

Hey, it's double-down Debbie Downer! Relax, they'll win by double digits.

I really liked the lineup of Martha, AJ, Reagan, Talia, Lily. We didn't see that package on the floor for long but they had a good few minutes where the ball was moving really well and they got some really good looks.

One last comment: I spoke with a friend who is pretty close to the WOU program. He said that several of their girls were surprised at the lack of defensive intensity on OSU's part. they didn't expect to be able to score 66.

Can't have Jelena in the line-up when opposition has 5 guards in the line-up.

Obviously others need to step up, but it sounds like Bendu will be the heart and soul of the defense.

I totally can see her inspiring others on defense, even it she has to kick them in their rears.

Based on Sunday's game, I would expect the Beavs to lose at home to Hawaii in their opener on Monday. Wrong. What else do you “expect”? Let me know in advance so I can bet against it. 🤙

I'm thrilled with the victory and despite some very rough moments, I liked a lot of what I saw. I hope Timea and Bendu get healthy soon as I'm really interested in how they add to the mix. The Beavs definitely need them. Sorry to hear you will be picking Seattle on Thursday, as I expect the Beavs to win handily.
