Talia 17 and AJ 10 at the half. AJ has improved. Don’t make too much of the score… lineups have not been optimum. Experimentation in progress. Defense has not been great. Not concerned. Defense usually lags at this time. What I am curious about is how the freshmen look. Thanks for all the updates beavsteve.

AJ with 19, couple of breakaway layups. I don’t like the Beers/Mitrovic combo on the floor. They seem to cancel each other out.

Andrea was sitting with some guys from the men's team. They showed them on the center court board and, when people noticed her, she got a nice ovation.
No Timea, no Shallexxus, no Bendu, so only 8 players suited up. All played quite a bit.
The defense was unimpressive overall. Raegan got beat a few times and Jelena seemed to be out of position a lot.
Lily seems to have a nose for the ball and grabbed a bunch of rebounds. She also was not afraid to put up that corner 3. Didn't start going down for her until the end, but I liked what I saw. Raegan was OK, but looked like a freshman. I think she needs to get comfortable, and she'll be fine.
AJ looked like what we were all hoping for. I think I was more impressed with her than any other player. Jelens was, I think, 8 for 8 from the free throw line, with a nice smooth stroke and soft shot - that was very good to see.
A somewhat ragged start considering the competition, but that's what you have pre-conference games for. Pretty good crowd for an exhibition, 2,500 or so. No band, and no charged atmosphere in Gill, but good to be back.

And I talked to Timea after the game. She said she’s good and will be back soon. Something is wrong but she wouldn’t talk about it, which I don’t think she should, other that she’s planning on playing soon.

Just got back from the game. (Shout out to WOU - well coached team, understood their strengths and weaknesses, and had lots of pesky, quick guards to keep things interesting for our youngsters) Andrea was indeed at the game, at one point the "stadium cam" focused on her. She was walking off by herself after the game, which seemed a bit off for such a gregarious individual, but most of her associates were probably in the locker room at that point. Mannen played a lot, which was cool, but says something - unless she was providing some stability to all of the experimentation. Typical "spark plug/energizer easy shot plays", but those work in short bursts. Mitrovic didn't seem to be where she left off last season - I was expecting more blocks, more shot alteration......note that WOU didn't really have any tall timber matching up, so she had to step out on quicker guards a lot on D, and they figured out how to hover out of her "step out" range with effectiveness. She needs to re-remember to not bring the ball down, and not dribble in traffic. She displayed some good post moves, good touch around the rim, and seems to be slimmer than last year. AJ seems to have grown an inch (or maybe I don't remember how tall she was to go with the lanky athleticism). We ran several BLOB plays for AJ to great success, where the players created a scrum/clog in front of the inbounder, and AJ popped clear and took a midrange jumper with elevation (nice smooth stroke). TVO seemed to warm up to the game as the game went on, and is really the centerpiece of the team. Hit some 3s when we needed them (a very cold shooting time from the arc for us). Some ill advised fast break passes that didn't quite thread the needle, but I expect her to round into form early in the season. I really like Lily's game. She reminds me of a young Syd Wiese - headband, lankiness, sideways shooting stance - not as cocky or confident (yet). Was not afraid to put it up. I just really like her game, and have a hunch she will delight the Gill crowds as she grows...... Reagan has a really polished game for a true frosh. She knows how to body up her opponent, has some nice post moves, good wingspan for rebounds - I see her logging a lot of minutes in the forward position or spelling Mitro at center. Blacklock has potential, but I think her game needs to "speed up" a bit yet. Lastly, I think Martha will contribute. She has a good handle, communicates like a true PG coming up the floor, has the "organizational skills" you want to see in your ball handler getting people into the right places, and kept her eyes up and around the court. We will see a team that grows in front of our eyes, but there is a lot of work to be done. We weren't crashing the boards, we weren't making WOU uncomfortable shooting, we weren't blocking or altering shots to the degree we have been accustomed. The team also needs to come together more - the brash, cocky, confident, leaders need to emerge, the bench antics need to return. The team that took the floor today was at best a middle of the road Pac-12 team - the prognosticators might have got it right for once. But I think the Beavers have a lot of headroom, room to grow. And we were missing some very experienced players, and it is very early. That said, I am suspecting I will have to enjoy the growth process more this season, since the team that was on the floor today would be pushed by any Pac-12 team and would overpower none. But it is early, and the team is clearly still in formative stages. It will be a fun journey! Go Beavers!

Anyone there pick up on that too. What about the freshmen in general I think he means they didn't ham & egg it together against smaller, quicker players. Didn't look like they were in sync with each other, and playing them together wasn't particularly effective, at least in this game.
