I don’t even think Jesus himself could resurrect the Nebraska football program. People forget that Jesus didn’t resurrect himself. I guess that depends on your interpretation of the mystery of the holy trinity.

Much tougher league.
No more criminals.
No more Prop 48s.
No more steroids.
No more Scott Frost.
1+2+3+4 = 5.

Look at what he did on the field, as Nebbys coach. They were pretty good.......he was abrasive, and kind of a dik.....he wasn't out of control. Hell, deshaun Watson still has a job....dude should be in jail! Ultimately, he was fired because Nebby wasn't happy with his on-field accomplishments.....the being "kind of a dik" made it easier for em I guess......well, the program has steadily gotten worse since he left.....I guarantee they wish they never fired him. Um, no. Read a little about it first. I posted several quotes he made publicly about the administration. It was a no brainer. This might do it! “On December 17, the Omaha World-Herald obtained audio of Pelini attacking Eichorst in vulgar terms while addressing his players on December 2. Pelini questioned Eichorst's integrity, calling him "a f%#*ing lawyer who makes policies," a "total pussy" and a "total ." ” Maybe he was right???.....constructive criticism??

According to the Cornhusker fans, 'N' stands for Nowledge.

Nebraska dominated an era of power running by pulling in big ass corn fed dudes of dubious character and made them beasts with a sophisticated doping scheme. Then came a scholarship limit, then came admission standards, then came more stringent drug testing. Sprinkle in a changing face and scheme of college football and the collapse was on.

They also had a strong recruiting pipeline in OK and TX for skill players. A lot of kids were going to Nebraska that were passed on by OU and UT because they wanted to play against them. That pipeline was lost when they moved to the Big 10.

When Nebraska played Oklahoma and Texas at least three times a year, the Huskers could pull those Oklahomans and Texans. Without Oklahoma and Texas in the fold, who exactly voluntarily goes to Lincoln to play football? Pelini was using smoke and mirrors to keep the team afloat. There is no chance for a guy like Frost to build a winner there.

Nebraska looks like a sucker job to me, for all the reasons mentioned in this thread, but mainly because they are in the Big 10 now. Who has flourished who has recently joined the Big 10? Maryland? Rutgers? I think they're both doing worse than they were before they joined.

And nationally I am not sure JS has established enough "success" to give him the cred to be hired by the delusional Nebbie AD and fans. They want a coach who is "hot" and is all the rage. They can go find that as that usually doesn't pan out. Ask Hawkins about that after he left Boise State.

Jonathan being hired would almost be an unsaid admission that they blew it with canning Riley. I'd think an AD in that position might be tempted to avoid that even if it was under a previous director.

Just point out to the Nebraska fan base the connection between Riley and Smith. They would go psychotic against hiring Smith. There is a vocal part of that fan base that thinks Riley's tenure was worse than Frost's.
