But of course, you don’t like to focus on negativity. Non sequitur for two reasons. First, I am responding to someone bashing three other Oregon State hitters to try and prop up Fuchs. Second, Fuchs is in the portal. He is gone. I did not bash him, while he was here, because I like to avoid doing that to current players. But he's gone, so I will state my opinion. I find any assertion that Logan did not give 110% in everything offensive. That guy was awesome. I really liked how hard he played. And I resent the implication that he would be inferior to Fuchs in pretty much anything on or off the field. I got Logan in football.........a knife fight........pistols at dawn. Logan's got Fuchs beat. Dernedde is usually great with the glove. Any hitting he usually brings is a bonus. But he out-hit Fuchs in the second half and at the Pac-12 Tourney. Plus, Dernedde always seems like he plays up to competition, as opposed to disappearing. Oregon State scored three runs in Corvallis Super Regional Championship Game. Boyd scored the first and third. The only other run scored? Dernedde scored the second. Dernedde reached in his final 13 games. Only one other player could say that and that was Boyd, who got on in each of his games since April. Dukart's statistics are better than Fuchs, especially over the second half. Stanford 1 - Oregon State 0 in 10 innings. Fuchs flew out with Melton at first. Fuchs struck out with Smith at second. Fuchs was thrown out at home. Fuchs struck out with Melton at third and Forrester at first. 1-0 ballgame in 10. If Fuchs would hit a ball to the outfield or made it home on Dernedde's single, Oregon State wins at least 1-0. Fuchs finished tied for the team lead in strikeouts. Fuchs tied for the team lead in left on base with four. The Beavers left 12 runners on, one-third of those were with Fuchs at bat. And Oregon State plays Auburn, as opposed to Connecticut, as a result. And you’re bashing 1 OSU player. Mr. Negativity.

I included his full slash line, and his OPS. Batting average is the first of the three slash line numbers. Of players with at least 100 at bats, Fuchs led the team in K/AB. Which is why you should stick to posting stats and facts and not your commentary. You did post all three, but with your bashing on him, you pointed out the batting average, but you completely ignored the .379 OBP and reasonable .670 OPS that he had. I would certainly rather have him at the plate than someone like Logan, Dukart, Dernedde, or Gretler, who all had worse seasons at the plate than Fuchs. Dernedde was by far the worst regular on the team this year, and really shouldn't have been playing in the postseason at all. I like Dernedde, but he really was a terrible player this year. Fuchs certainly wasn't one of our best players this year, but also wasn't even close to being our worst. Very serviceable and someone who deserved playing time, especially at DH. Edit: Also, K/AB means nothing. I would rather have a 5-6 pitch strikeout than a 1-2 pitch groundout. A strikeout is the exact same result as a flyout/groundout, but can typically have more pitches thrown. So sure, he had the highest K/AB, but he also had the 2nd highest BB/AB. He saw a lot of pitches and helped wear pitchers down. With no runners on or with two outs, a groundout and strikeout are identical, and you would want the 5-6 pitch strikeout over a 1-2 pitch groundout. However, in all other situations, a ground ball that does not result in a double play is worth 0.06 runs compared to an infield fly/strikeout. A fly ball to the outfield is worth 0.13 runs compared to an infield fly/strikeout. Depending on situation, ground balls and fly balls can be worth less or more than that (obviously), but that is the average.

And Oregon State plays Auburn, as opposed to Connecticut, as a result. I'm going based on stats, not hustle. Logan is 100% the reason we did not make it into the CWS. I like him, but he was a major liability to us both at the plate and behind the plate during the Super Regionals. Both games we lost were decided by passed balls from him. He made way too many errors during that series, and his bat went completely cold (including leading the team in GIDP with 5 on the season). You can also use small sample sizes, but for the overall season, Fuchs got on base a lot more than Dernedde, Dukart, and got on base a little more than Logan. Fuchs is by no means a great hitter, but he does have a great eye and was able to draw the walk. A solid bench option that was forced into the line-up when Wheeler went down. Dukart was also a black hole in the lineup for most of the season, but he really caught fire at the end, especially in the postseason. I'm glad he got hot at the right time, and I was hoping he would be able to stick around and build off of it for next year, but he won't be unfortunately. Dernedde had a couple of nice hits, but overall on the season was a major black hole in the lineup, and it made perfect sense to pinch hit for him when they did in the Supers. But as you said, we will have to agree to disagree. I prefer utilizing stats, especially more advanced stats/sabermetrics over using how much "heart" and "hustle" a player gives.

So you guys are really arguing about who sucked the most on the 2022 team? Shame.
They wore the Orange and Black and gave their hearts and soul to the team and OSU, and we fans got to be thrilled with another exciting year of Beaver baseball.
Don't do this. Don't belittle their efforts. Let them hold their heads high when they leave, knowing that Beaver fans thank them and respect them for their time as Beavers.

But as you said, we will have to agree to disagree. I prefer utilizing stats, especially more advanced stats/sabermetrics over using how much "heart" and "hustle" a player gives. Logan's last passed ball was in the Arizona series. Logan finished with four passed balls on the season. Excluding 2020, the last starter to have that few passed balls was Adley Rutschman. And Logan had fewer catcher's interference calls and fewer errors. He does not have Rutschman's arm, that is for sure. But he outplayed Claunch. Ice, Rutschman, and Logan are the three best starters at minimizing passed balls in the past 20 years. There were two errors in the Auburn series. The first was Bazzana screwing up and covering second, Carpenter throwing into center as a result. The second was Bazzana misplaying what should have been out number two in the sixth inning of game three. What in holy hell are you talking about? Logan hit five double-plays. Four were in wins. The other one was a back-breaker that Fuchs finished off. 2-1 Utah in the eighth. Melton and Boyd walked and Forrester reached on an error. Bases loaded and no outs. Logan hit a sharp one hopper that would have cleared a shorter pitcher or a pitcher with a more intricate throwing motion. However, the pitcher was able to finish his throw and recover in time to field the ball cleanly and set up the 1-2-3 double-play. Still two runners in scoring position for Fuchs down one, but he grounded out to short to end Oregon State's last hurrah. That was Logan's last double-play ball until the New Mexico state game, a fast two hopper that was right at the second baseman to start up a 4-6-3 double-play. Fuchs was great in the first half of the season and then fell below the Mendoza line for the rest. Maybe I'm wrong. To my eyes, I just did not see the hustle and fire. He did not give 110%. He loafed. It looked like he had another gear that he almost never pulled out. I watched some highlights the other day and was reminded how I did not like to watch him play. I picked up what I believe was some dislike between him and some of the other players, as well. I am glad that Fuchs came out. I hope that he does well in his future endeavors. But he was my least favorite position player to watch on the 2022 team. It did not seem like he ever 100% bought in. Most of the guys left everything on the field every game, and I just felt like Fuchs was not one of them.
