Looks like Pfennigs last start might have dissuaded them from moving him up in the rotation.

Looks like Pfennigs last start might have dissuaded them from moving him up in the rotation. I don't blame them. The one way you can easily lose to a lower tier team is by walking guys left and right. Jake is still having issues with that. If they were going to mix it up, I would lean towards throwing Kmatz.

Is there a schedule for our regional bracket beyond Friday? I haven't found one anywhere I've looked.
In any event this gives Kmatz normal rest days, Pfennings an extra day (assuming a Sunday start and not Saturday).

I wouldnt throw Kmatz. I would let Jake have a get right game. Then throw your ace against an SEC power rather than the true freshman who struggles to get you 5 against mediocre teams.

Truthfully, Jake has not returned to his best form yet. Maybe he's just a game away but if he's not it creates a problem for the staff and the bullpen. His command of his pitches has been missing. He has struggled to locate and his breaking stuff has been inconsistent. He's behind in the count, having to make too many pitches and seems to be pitching with men on base every inning. His "out" pitch has also been missing. Having to pitch your way out of a jam every inning or so is wearing. We don't want that, for Jakes sake and the team's.
Maybe the answer is to give him the ball on a inning to inning basis (a short hook) with the understanding, "let's see how you do". One problem with that scenario is that Jake has usually been better once he gets into the 3rd inning. Even in outings where we have seen him string a run of zeros across the board, he can be shakey in the 1st and 2nd innings.

If anything about changing the rotation.....put Kmatz in there on Friday then use Hjerpe for Saturday. Then we blend pfennig, sabby etc to close out on Sunday

Winning game 1 is crucial. It sets up rest of regional. And we don’t want to be relying on pen all weekend. I think Hjerpe is right move. Need game 1.
…. And… if we can’t get more than an inning out of Pfennigs… it’s a moot point anyway… our pen is not deep enough

We need to keep our pen fresh and the best chance to do that is a nice long, quality outing from Hjerpe
