Meckler again - four for six on Thursday night. 13 for 21 over last five games. After 20 games at high-A his slash line was 456/494/633. Now after 18 games at AA the line is 394/494/465. Welcome to the Pacific Coast League next week?

Madrigal hit his 1st HR of the season today. 2-4 and he's up to .281 now.

Nick is up to .277, with four doubles in his last six games. He's hit in 7 straight games, and 9 of 10. He is a MLB player, he just needed to get back into the lineup every day. Nick's seven-game hitting streak ended upon your mention. And that included Nick forgetting how many outs there were and trying to squeeze with two outs. Today though: Nick hit his first home run in more than two years. His last home run was on June 4, 2021, the same day that the 2021 Fort Worth Regional started, 756 days ago. Madrigal was the team hitting leader at the time but blew out his right hamstring five days later. Nick has basically been trying to get back to 100% since and may be getting there. Nick went 2/4 with two runs and the RBI on the homer. Nick is now hitting .281/.340/.363. Since he returned from an 11-game stint in Iowa, Nick is hitting .327/.421/.408. The Cubs are five games back of the Brewers and Reds in the NL Central. |

The Red Sox have recalled Caleb Hamilton. Backup C on 10-day IL. Hamilton got the start on Sunday. 0/2 with two K's before being subbed out. He has been a defensive substitute twice. Otherwise, he has not seen the field. |

Madrigal placed on the IL with a hamstring issue. Just when he was heating up. 10-day IL. Same right hamstring as before, which seems to have bothered him back to Oregon State. Hopefully, it's not a season-ender like last time. Cubs are seven games back of the Reds. If that goes up and Madrigal comes back healthy, Madrigal may be trade bait. |

Otherwise, he has not seen the field. Hamilton picked up a golden sombrero on Sunday with one walk. Two spot starts and two defensive substitutions in four games with Boston over the past two weeks. Hamilton was designated for assignment again today. |

Larnach on 10-day IL, retroactive to May 22. Larnach was on the 10-day with pneumonia. He was on a rehab stint in St. Paul and came off the 10-day on the sixth. The Twins just sent Larnach back down to St. Paul yesterday. After a wretched June, Larnach is slugging .826 over the past week down in St. Paul, including hitting a home run in each game from July 2-4. |
