3rd quarter of the first round game against Konawaena the commentator said, after she made a three "note how Donowyns shot rotates side to side vs front to back, something she may have to work on in college". I've never heard that before about any player. It was around 2:30 left in the 3rd FYI Yea, it looks like the thumb of her off-hand follows through on her shot, which can cause some horizontal rotation. It's a variable they probably will want to eliminate in her shooting form, as it makes it harder to be consistent. In general her form has a lot more movement compared to our freshman shooters. That said, maybe we could use more streaky instead of pure shooters, given the last 1.5 seasons! A lot to like about her game. S. Medford uses her a lot at the top of the 1-3-1 trapping zone, and she's super effective in that role, like Seth Tarver used to be in the Craig Robinson era. She also has really good handles, already looks as good as anyone on the roster currently, IMO. I think her biggest adjustment is going to be learning passing angles and locating them; she often isn't placing her passes well in this game, and that margin of error closes significantly at the Pac-12 level. Regardless, she has a lot going for her to be a really good D1 player.

Watching games for both Donovyn & Kenedie I realized there is still no shot clock but teams don't seem to abuse that, and I researched it, FYI, that has changed:
On Monday, the OSAA executive board unanimously voted to approve a 35-second shot clock for Oregon hoops beginning in the 2023-2024 season. Sep 16, 2022

If someone could highlight what was said I'd be grateful. I don't subscribe to the Oregonian.

If someone could highlight what was said I'd be grateful. I don't subscribe to the Oregonian. The link didn’t work for me, but went directly to O-live and found it ( link). It was the long story of her enduring two knee injuries and how the process of recovery helped her grow. She suffered a ‘pop’ since then that threw a scare into her but it turned out to be nothing (her P-T said that could happen). The article talked about how recruiting interest waned with her injuries but that Scott Rueck kept a high level of interest in her through it all… that, plus her being a bit of a “home-body” who had OSU high on the list for a long time… made it an easy decision when Scott extended an offer.

If someone could highlight what was said I'd be grateful. I don't subscribe to the Oregonian. I went ahead and subscribed ($1 the first month) and thought about copying it but it is realllllllly long like lotrader said and it is peppered with ads, sorry. Here is my favorite part, referenced by lotrader. A self-proclaimed home body, Hunter had always had Oregon State near the top of her list. So when — after maintaining consistent communication with her since seventh grade while other programs left her by the wayside — head coach Scott Rueck and the Beavers extended an official offer, she jumped at the opportunity, officially committing last May. “A kid can be good at sports, and may never grow within their sport,” Hunter said. “They may just kind of stay the same. At that high of a level, you want to make sure that whoever you’re recruiting is continuously getting better over time. So [Rueck] wouldn’t give me the offer, but he was always in touch and always at the games that I was at, and always just paying attention behind the scenes… He has always stuck with me.”

It's cringe-worthy to hear about the injuries, but she comes across in the article previously noted and this interview as very mature for her age about it all. Interesting that they talk about her being a PG at OSU pretty certainly. Kennedie Schuler our other 2023 plays PG full time for Barlow.

The OSAA 6A Basketball Tournament's final 8 Teams will be played March 8-11. Hopefully we can watch Kennedie Schuler (Barlow) & Donovyn Hunter (South Medford) assuming they make it to the quarterfinals. www.osaa.org/activities/gbx/brackets
