Man, our pitching sucks. /s If our median hitting and median pitching show up in the same game it will be something. Offense has lost its spark. It happens; baseball is a streaky sport. The team needs a lighter week and only having to drive up to Portland for Tuesday's game should help a bit. I'm expecting a strong showing from both pitching and hitting against USC this weekend. |

Probably the 17 strikeout performance had something to do with it. 42 in 3 games ain’t bad. To be fair, Furd has not been a good hitting team this season. Prolly won't have the same number of K's vs ARZ or the quacks. And while the K's are nice, we lost the series because of pen collapse, and not getting timely hits.....how many LOB did we have? In scoring position? It's baseball. It happens....hand it to the Furd starter yesterday. After going down 5-0 and walking in what, 3 in a row? He settled in and dominated our vaunted lineup.....pretty impressive. |

The "Furd starter" was Drew Doud and he pitched 2.0 innings and was responsible for 4 earned runs. Quinn Mathews threw the last 7 innings. |

Still, none of our pitchers gave up as many runs as Dowd, their starter. And all combined, we merely had 3 walks while Matthews alone had 4. We didn’t hit batters and we only had one wild pitch…same as Stanford. Still you want to pin the loss on something and you like to attack the pitchers. Silly. We lost Sunday because Matthews pitched very well. He remained fairly composed while he issued walk after walk, but he never gave up the killer base hit. He just beat our hitters. On Friday night, we did not lose because of the pen. We lost because we couldn’t drive in a single run to support our fantastic pitching. That’s it. Period. Game should’ve been over in the 9th. We had multiple opportunities to bring in a run to support Hjerpe. It didn’t happen. That loss, also, is more on the batters than the pitchers. |

Every one is talking about young players and pitchers, we also have a young coaching staff. They have coached kids that have been drafted into the MLB system and their job was to develop and move them along. Now their job is to develop high school kids and WIN games. Going to take some time to learn how.
It will get better.

It's annoying.....like a furd fan at Goss! My "silly" ass saw our pen, mainly Verburg lose a lead by giving up two doubles in a row and then loadin up for Carpenter.....ball game! We all saw Friday of course Hjerpes gem was wasted by us not hitting....hats off to the Furd staff. We had a chance to take the series with a lead that was given up.....and yea we didn't get timely hits ....I'm not gonna split hairs with you. You seem to have a soft spot for Verburg or something.....are you his uncle? |
