She missed so many lay ups and short shots. She saw the ball plenty in a position to score, finishing was the issue. Lol... couldn't have missed too many as she only got 7 attempts per game and one per was from 3. She was third on the team in FGA with 209 behind Talia (357) and Ellie (227). She took 183 shots inside the arc, which leaves plenty of opportunities for close misses.

2 things can be true for me. 1 that we will miss what KB does well and pac-12 starting experience. 2 with the roster currently plus what we have committed, I think she’s the loss we can most withstand. Mictrovic is limited in what she can do defensively. So is Taylor! Big loss defensively.

I like Kennedy and thought she had a chance to bring us two really solid years the next couple seasons, and this does bring up many questions. In the end though, the biggest question is whether or not this is the end of transfers leaving. Taylor and Kennedy wanted to play together and I thought they were close.....maybe they are. If Taylor is sticking around, losing Kennedy only provides a chance for Raegan or Timea (or both) a chance to start, and gives the Beavs one more scholarship they can use this summer. You hate to lose Kennedy's experience though, and this blow would be softened if Taya decided to stay. If this is a prelude to Taylor leaving as well, it will most likely lead to a very youthful team next year, and a lower half finish in the Pac12. I hate how scary this time of year has become, yet there is excitement that the Beavs can have the portal play in their favor this summer.

Jelena’s pure size alters shots around the rim, and I think Taylor is much better defensively than you give her credit for. KB is a good defender, but I never thought she was as impactful as Ruth, Marie, or even Taya is.

I believe this whole portal situation is becoming very challenging for Coach Rueck. I believe he built the foundation of his OSU success on developing talent and teamwork to overcome the built in disadvantages that being in a small state with limited available talent created.
So now when he gets players who are not willing to take the time and effort to develop, his whole system is in question.
To me perhaps he might consider recruiting mainly in the West and perhaps overseas. In general you do not see the overseas players bailing out when the first relative, aau coach, rival coach, etc. whisper in their ear that they are really the next Brianna Stewart but their current ignorant coach was not able to see it.
This is a tremendous challenge for Coach Rueck. Any ideas from the group on how to approach it. Keep in mind, all our incoming highly rated recruits are from distant states.

We'll miss her defense and rebounding 6.8 rpg. A very quick and agile 6'-6" inside presence. Less of a loss on the offensive end. 7.2 ppg, 40.2% from field. 25.6% from 3. I'll ask again - how does a player with less than stellar numbers like this market herself to another team?

We’ve been somewhat spoiled by very efficient posts like Jones, Gulich, Hamblin, etc., but Brown’s combination of size, agility, defense, and passing will make her a very hot commodity in the portal. I’m sure a lot of teams will want her to play the five, so she’ll have some decisions to make.

You heard what UConn Gene said....300 portal players will not find another team. Though I'm sure Kennedy will.

I live in Spokane Washington now after 60+ years in Oregon. A few years ago Kelly Olynek (a first round NBA draft choice who has played in the league now for several years) played for Gonzaga as a freshman. He was 7 feet tall and had obvious skills but needed physical improvementand skills improvement.
He received limited playing time that year and most likely if the portal situation had existed he would have bailed. However instead he choose to redshirt and with intensive training and coaching he became a tremendously talented college player and a wealthy and successful NBA player.
Perhaps a lesson for many of the young women currently believing "the grass is alway greener on the other side" theory.

She never wanted to play the 5 but did because the team needed it. One of the reasons Rueck liked her was her versatility. I'm sure this will be one thing she market's. I'm not sure playing the 5 didn't influence her decision to leave. Defense and rebounding is enough for some teams, it was for us. She will find a new home.

This is a tremendous challenge for Coach Rueck. Any ideas from the group on how to approach it. Keep in mind, all our incoming highly rated recruits are from distant states. We have a lot of similar thoughts and questions. SR's recruiting has always appeared to be very relationship oriented and it has worked well for him....Sasha and Kennedy are two good examples, but after they arrived in Corvallis there wasn't enough something here to keep them. Times have changed though. The portal plays just as big of a role as recruiting, and in some ways it is more important because in recruiting you can't lose what you already have, but in the portal, you can lose and you can gain. If SR is behind times, (and that was an 'if') he needs to step up his portal game. It's not unlike the business world. Right now, I have to do everything I can to keep employees and find employees. If you let up for a minute, you will lose out to someone else. I love the "We are family" theme, but I wonder how well the Beavs have made it work in recent years. I don't think SR took the best of advantage of the portal last season, and I'm hoping he learned a lot from that. There are plenty of openings on the Beavs roster now, so it's time to take advantage of the portal.

At the beginning of the season Brown was asked who her best friend was on the team, she hesitated and then said Taya. She came here as besties with Brown, so something went wrong there and if Taya leaves I think she wasn't really close to anyone else on the team.

I honestly don’t see anything POSITIVE about this.
