The discipline issues and "rampant favortism" all seem to be speculative. Have there been published quotes from players or reporters speaking to these issues?
I have no idea what kind of kid Davis is off the floor. The quotes in that 24/7 article certainly don't paint him as a guy who wants to help a team win....rather of a kid who wants a team to help him win. He definitely wants to be the focal point of the offense. We saw what can happen when he's given the green light like he was against USC....he was incredible in the second half....but he also ran out of gas and came up woefully short on a 3 pointer at the end of the second OT.....and he was 1-5 on 3's in that game, with the one he made an off balance forced shot at the end of regulation. You know who did shoot 3's well that night? Calloo and Lucas, who were a combined 8-10 from deep that game. Those two took a combined one shot in the last 20 minutes of game action.
Davis is unquestionably talented, but after reading that article, I'm betting he went home that night thinking that if he'd just gotten some help from his teammates, he wouldn't have been so tired on that last shot.
Well, his teammates shot 51% from the field and 61.5% from 3 when they got to shoot in the first 30 minutes of that game. It's not like we were down 20 and Davis brought us back.
It is true that Tinkle recruited him and could've (should've?) known he was a me-first kind of guy. Maybe he did. Maybe he knew they needed a point guard and grabbed the most talented guy available and overestimated his ability to get the kid to play his system. I know it happened to me coaching my son's middle school team. Thought I could get through to a kid better than the previous coach did. I couldn't. Happened to me in college when I thought I could deal with the hot girl across the street's craziness and/or get her to tone it down a little....that didn't go my way either. Lesson learned.
Tinkle's already changing things. New assistant coaches. At least a half dozen new players next year. If it still stinks, reboot the program. You'll get no arguments from me.

Davis averaged 10.5 assists per game his last year at j.c. I have no idea what we will look like in 22-23. Clearly a housecleaning was needed or atleast a change of scenery for several players. A need for leadership by veterans appeared to be non existent on this years team. Start fresh next year with the players and new staff...much needed for fans too.

No. No, sleight of hand involved. Based upon the first two posts of this thread, he is a toxic player. A toxic player cannot help a team thrive without either being coddled or disciplined. If you go against his ego, you have to not only have enough ammunition to back it up, but you also have to have his respect so that he cares. Obviously, OSU wasn’t a fit for him and the unique situation of the year allowed the player to romp over the coaches. That’s never good. What will happen if he’s on UW’s team? What do you think? Do you think anything in the above statements shows a kid who will listen to his coaches? I think he thinks he has all the answers. I think he borders on being uncoachable. Another poster remarked in a different thread about how bad apples on a team can spoil others around them and create more distraction and negativity. I tend to agree with that idea. Don’t you think so? Your right as there was no "sleight of hand" or a very bad attempt. I did not quote the other two posts. I quoted your specifically that stated DD burned the program to the ground... so to speak. No single player can do that unless allowed. There was plenty of off season and early season to eliminate the problem while there was still a full roster. If the cancer is cut out early maybe the other players later, "injured", get their time and see a more harmonious team and actually play. The tail is not suppose to wag the dog. Unfortunately this isn't the first episode of WT having discipline issues. Much of what you have written is true under normal circumstances. But we left normal long ago. You don't go from an Elite Eight appearance to a three win season under normal circumstances. So we have to look beyond that. The fact is that we will not learn the full extent of the problems that brought about this year. This is the closest that we have come--a former player clearly demonstrating that his ego is greater than the team and the coaches. That's a huge problem. In normal circumstances, perhaps a coach could deal with it. Maybe not. Lots of schools will probably pass on him for this very reason. Was Davis the cause of the meltdown? Can one rotten player spoil the lot? If he was getting into fights with players at practice and arguments with coaches, I could see how one player could turn the program sour. You want to put it on Tinkle. I think there's fault there, to be sure, but I don't know how much. I don't have Tinkle's words. I only know what Davis said. Without more information, I know 1 problem existed and that was him. If you have evidence of more, I'm happy to hear it. I'm as anxious as the next guy to know what the hell happened this season.

Sure. It was DD that burned the season down! Good gawd. Where does a player like that belong on a team? He’s just gone through the worst season of his life and his takeaway is “ME, ME, ME.” But I’m sure his hollow, egotistical cries match your own. Wasn't he at two separate community colleges before coming to OSU?

"interested" doe not equal "signed. Maybe they are actually investigating how much of the type of info posted here is accurate. And, if Davis is the DB he is purported to be, maybe he embellishes on who/how many schools are interested?? Typically there is nothing official from schools unless a signing occurs. Interest and offers are typically the word of the players. Some have not been completely truthful in that area! So you’re thinking that UW maybe isn’t serious? OK, I’ll buy that. I was just thinking that coaches want to win and maybe they think they have the key for turning the boy around. Certainly, if the Beavers had had a more healthy lineup, punishments might have had an effect on Davis and maybe he could have turned around. Of course, baseba1111 seems to think the kid’s a winner. He’ll take him on his fantasy team. So there must be others, right? baseba1111 is here?

All I am hearing and reading is its everybody else's fault except the guy who ultimately hired him. Now that's great management.

Meanwhile while WT tries to piece together a roster for next season, the bastards down south just got a commitment from Mookie Cooks a top 5 player in the class of 23 from Portland. I remember during the Orange Express days when we were the dominate program in the state and uo sucked. Never in my wildest dreams, I mean nightmares, did I envision the tables turning as they have.

Thinking 40 years is a long time to think we were viable. They recruit for many reasons. We can bitch about it but they also have a basketball Coach,a budget, and attract top tier players. We are living in a fog. Unless Osu takes it seriously I believe we will be not relevant. I did watch elite 8 last Year. So here we are again. Our newest recruit was not highly recruited. That seems to suit us.

;0 years futility. A final 8 . We recruit 3 star guys and they get a 5 star. Are we surprised. Who cares what we did during the good old days? Until we take it seriously we will be 63 out of 65. OSU needs to wake up.

Best of luck to the guy. May he find what he's looking for. OSU was not what he was looking for. IDK where he lands.... ASU would be a good fit? personality like the HC?
He could go to UW and Markel Fultz the program
