Lack of hitting against their Sunday pitching was a problem. But two outs away from a win and lose the strike zone (just like last week when Mitch hit two batters) is real bad against a lineup that two hits all day prior.

So another normal Sunday. Is that 3 straight Sunday loses now? Yes it’s 3 straight Sunday losses. Lack of good pitchers after Fridays and Saturdays. When will Pfennigs return??? Closers didnt close, but one run didn’t cut it. Healthy Pfennigs wouldn’t have done it.

For whatever reasons we really sucked at the plate. You have to be tough, compete. The kids breaking ball was killing us so you know what we will be seeing down the road. If you can't throw strikes and get 3 outs you can't be called a closer. What the hell, bring in the Loser?

Well today the Sunday pitchers took a 1-0 lead into the 9th. Lattery, Ferrer, & Brown pitched 8 shut out innings. Things fell apart when they went to Carpenter. Pfennigs is solid but how many games is he winning 1-0? Against Irvine we lost 3-2 hardly horrible pitching. Against Washington St the pitching was pretty bad. I blame a weak offense for the loss today. We should score more than 1 run on Sunday.

No clear closer on this team. Better start looking at other pitchers. Ferrer should get a look. Better find someone that can slam the door shut. They will need one come late in the year and postseason. The games will be closer and the pressure high.

If the guy behind the plate has a large zone, you need to adjust to it. How many called thirds were there that were letter high, and the batter shook his head or held his hands up as if confused when walking towards the dugout? As for Carpenter, it seemed as if when he didn’t get the outside call, he let it get to him and just lose the entire at bat. The Beavs let the unfortunate calls get to them, and it showed.

Sundays are just plain weird in College Baseball. Today's losses by D-1 Top 25 ranked teams (against un-ranked opponents):
#5 Oregon State #6 Notre Dame #8 Florida State #9 Florida #17 Texas Tech #19 TCU
Still possible: #8 Florida State (tied 3-3 in 8th) #13 LSU 9 tied 6-6 in 8th)

All in all, a fun series. Beavs take it 2-1. I'll remember the Friday and Saturday games a lot more than I'll remember Sunday. Onward and upward! Oh, and there's this: bennyshouse.com/post/262762LOL And that night, as mentioned, they were. Pretty much most world agree that Friday's display was atrocious and so labeled as the team that night. So... lol right back😆 A loss, but as a baseball fan very compelling to see a group of athletes who could have been demoralized such that they didn't show today compete. Hopefully ASU builds on today and whips up on some other Pac12 teams to help OSU out.

Healthy Pfennigs wouldn’t have done it. Pfennigs.... Wouldn't have done it - so true. Could he have held them to ZERO Runs thru a complete 9 innings? Probably not. Lattery - Ferrar - Brown did their job with a 'Pfennings-Like' (or better): one run over 8 innings. Carpenter faced 5 batters in the 9th and record ONE Out. THAT, and the lack of offense = today's loss. STILL - I'm looking forward to a Hjerpe - Pfennings - Kmatz rotation.

Well we must figure out bullpen. 2 guys pitched well for 8 innings. Sad Achilles heel. Should have let Brown finish up in the 9th. We can’t trust Verburg anymore and now can’t trust Carpenter. Isn’t Verburg 3rd losses today? Carpenter was the LP. He put the tying and winning runs on base. We gave up 8 outs in our batting order today.

Complaining about pitching in a 3-1 loss is a bit counterproductive. I think most on this board would expect this team to win giving up 3. And, OSU's not winning many Pac12 games with 1.

Probably not. But we should have won this one.

ASU strategy was brilliant. Absolutely wore our batters out in the first two games.
