Old Brave saying. Boston. Spahn and Sain and pray for Rain. Seems to fit at least midweek games. Hope to get one guy back soon. Hard to watch on feed. Need more camera work. Man GCU is a tough out.

Bottom line we didn't even get 1 K in 9 innings. GC went up like they own the damn place and they did.

I feel worse about the Wazzu loss. We could have/should have won that one. Midweek seems to be a different sort of tempo/mindset.
Kudos to GCU for their effort. They won and they fought very well. I hope we don't need to see them in a regional.

I looked up the score a little while ago. There is a depth issue on the mound in midweek games. Someone needs to step up.

Jebus, glad I couldn't watch the massacre, sounds like a total collapse of just about everything. That number 5 ranking is going to be really short lived, and with good reason, too early and it just became obvious the teams we beat may really not be that good.... That is an ass whipping, maybe get the big head out of the team, good early lesson for them maybe?

It depends on what we do this weekend.

If you buy into statistical data and take the advice of the "Quants", you hit your best bat 2nd in the order. MLB data mining since about 1980 shows the 2-hole is the batting position of opportunity plus over a 55 game season, your #2 hitter will get about 7-8 more at bats than your cleanup guy.
How important is the batting order? When Billy Martin was managing the Tigers, they suffered through a long losing streak. He put names in his hat, had a coach randomingly draw names out of the hat and that's how the game's batting order was determined. The Tigers won 12 of the next 13 games using that "system". Analytically, only the number 2 hole is important. There is randomness to hitting.
Hard for old school guys who see every spot in the order as having a role to play. Leadoff man - high OB% and base stealer. #2 Bat control guy - H&R, bunter, etc #3 High BA and some power #4 Good hit plus power #5 2nd cleanup man #6 Power but lower BA #7 OB% guy #8 Mirror #2 - good place to hide a good bat #9 Usually the weak stick

I looked up the score a little while ago. There is a depth issue on the mound in midweek games. Someone needs to step up. Well it's still early in the season and the coach sent out 7 pitchers today to see who could get outs against a good hitting team. Only 2 of the 7 passed the test: Nice 1-2-3 inning for Brock Townsend, and Justin Thorsteinson went 1.2 innings only giving up 1 hit and 1 BB. Of course Townsend is past proven successful and just backed it up with today's solid outing, but the coach did find one new face here in JT that can do the job----look for him to get more opportunities now to back this solid outing up.

⚾️ Most runs scored on Oregon State since April 7, 2018 ⚾️ Most runs scored on Oregon State at home since April 16, 2010 2018 turned out ok for us. The April 7 game against AZ or Utah? Arizona. Luke Heimlich started and gave up six earned runs in 3.1 innings to put Oregon State in a 6-2 hole. Cadyn Grenier hit a two-run double down the leftfield line to pull within two runs in the sixth. In the seventh, Christian Chamberlain gave up a run. He then proceeded to give up an additional four in the eighth before being pulled for Sam Tweedt with the bases juiced. Tweedt gave up a grand slam to Cameron Cannon (Boston Red Sox #43 overall), which accounted for the 15-4 loss. 13 runs is the most allowed at Goss since 2014: Irvine 14 - Oregon State 2. That was the winners' bracket game of the 2014 Corvallis Regional. It is the most runs allowed in a regular season game against a team outside the Pac-12 since 2013: San Diego 13 - Oregon State 3. It is the most runs scored on Oregon State at Goss in the regular season since the 14-6 loss to Stanford on April 16, 2010. The last time that Oregon State gave up 13 runs at home in a midweek game? April 25, 2006. Portland 20 - Oregon State 13.

And that was the year that OSU won it's first National Championship! Yep. Anton Maxwell, Daniel Turpen, Greg Keim, Mark Grbavac, Joe Paterson, Eddie Kunz and Jon Koller combined to surrender 20 runs in 12 innings (14 earned). Six of those seven would pitch in the postseason over the next two years, and five of them would pitch at Omaha. (Jon Koller did not pitch in the postseason, and Greg Keim ate up some outs in the loss at the Charlottesville Regional in 2007.)
