"Johnny Wholestaff" still picthing Victor Quinn comes in to pitch the third inning. FB 93-96 mph supposedly, and a breaking ball, so just two picthes, but if you can control 93+ FB, you only need one other pitch A bit worrisome that OSU needs to go "staff" for midweek game this early in the season?? Should have somebody depth that canb go 3+ at least. A bit weird at this point. Wondering with heavy rain forecast for Friday night there might already be a DH planned for Saturday or Sunday?? I think it is more about seeing what you've got in the pen against a legit D1 team in GCU. This early in the season gathering info on your own guys, and giving them opputunities to gather info on themselves, is almost the most important result.

Approach to mid week games appears to put some emphasis on player development. Wouldn't worry about anything just yet.

Bottom 3rd:
Thorsteinson gets us out of the inning, but now down 5-0. Gonna need to do some raking.

This early in the season gathering info on your own guys, and giving them opputunities to gather info on themselves, is almost the most important result. But, like hoops for example, a short stint often shows you nothing. Guys need not only innings, but consecutively to get in a groove, feel the game. One inning stints are great for guys who will never see extended time. But, most guys don't see an "in and out" appearance very telling until they can go thru a lineup. Anyway, I still find it worrisome. And, letting your starter go out to hopefully find his groove and finish on a positive is also strange. If he struggled again early, ok, yank him. But, unless tight or injured I'd want to see how he bounces back. As far as I've been around OSU baseball they've never really been short of quality mid-week starters.

Bad news is down 6-0. It feels like 16-0. Now 6-2. Dernedde drives in two, no outs bottom of 5. Dernedde on 2nd. Meckler grounds out, runner does not advance. Melton grounds out, runner still on 2nd. Boyd drives in Dernedde with a double. Boyd takes third. Garret grounds out. Now 6-3, back in this thing boys!

Top of 6, Grewe still out there. Walk to the 8 hitter. Dorman visits mound looking like a man on a mission. Grewe stays in. Double down left field line. Now 7-3. Fly out. Hibbard now pitching, looks great. Fly out to center. Double down 3b line. Run scores. 8-3. HR, now 10-3. Somehow we got a third out.

He really needs to beef up his lower body to be effective.
