Four candidates? Wheeler, Forrester, Smith and Boisvert. Combination of any 2. Like I matter! Yeah I would sure be looking at someone that can hit. I’d throw Tanner Smith in the options at 3rd. His bat needs in the lineup.

Do we know whether he can even play 3rd? I thought he's only played catcher in his baseball life?

Do we know whether he can even play 3rd? I thought he's only played catcher in his baseball life? He started at 1B for one game this year, so I don't think that statement is true.

The way Smith swings the Bat I would sure give it a lot of thought at 3rd. All three of the current guys should be doing far better. Time will tell.

But, it's not like Smith can just go out and be a D1 3B without extensive work at the position and all it entails. And, with two other bodies getting all the time there, I'm guessing he has had very little work if any at the position while at OSU.

Do we know whether he can even play 3rd? I thought he's only played catcher in his baseball life? He was heralded as one of the top five catchers in the United States. His secondary position in high school was third base. He also was employed occasionally as a pitcher.

Do we know whether he can even play 3rd? I thought he's only played catcher in his baseball life? Never played 3B at the D1 level. Nor do we know if he's even had any extensive work at the position while at OSU. I'm betting not as he's not been an option at the position even with the struggles of the other players there.

The much more likely scenario, if we really want to get a better, more proven bat into the lineup at 3b. Is to have Forrester go from 1B to 3B. He has at least played a pac-12 game at 3b (last year, and 2 games at 2b). Then you can have Smith play at 1B when he isn't catching. Logan is a rare Catcher/OF interestingly enough. He actually played CF a couple times for the Ottawa team he was on. Tanner played a couple games at 3B for the Corvallis Knights so it's not impossible for him to play there, but at least Forrester has done it for the Beavs. BTW, for defensive stats and games played I couldn't find that on OSUBeavers.com. baseball reference is a much better source, and a much easier interface to navigate: www.baseball-reference.com/register/team.cgi?id=f709900a

Do we know whether he can even play 3rd? I thought he's only played catcher in his baseball life? Played a number of games at 3rd for the Knights. Much better option than Boisvert at 3rd.

It looks as if Guerra is making a serious play for this job.
