What I would say to Kliavkoff would be part of it is to land decent TV packages rather than the Pac-12 network as part of the solution too. Anyone thinks the Pac-12 office has a part in any of this misconception?

That's an excellent story. Unlike Larry Scott, he seems to have a clue.
I'm not in favor of an 8-game conference schedule. But if this is the reason we drop a league game - commit to playing eight conference games and one Big Ten team and one ACC team out of conference every year - I guess I am OK with it.

Kliavkoff says that the Pac-12 is the worst that it's been since 1983. What exactly is he basing that on? By all metrics that I have seen, it is worse than 1983.

"committed to winning at the highest level and allocated the necessary resources." Funnel more money to the AD.

Great article. If you hit a paywall like I did, just go to Google and Google "la times George kliavkoff" and I could find the article and open it without hitting the paywall. This works for Oregon Live articles behind their paywall too. Must be more to it than just google it to get in a pay site for free.

No doubt… we are in much better hands with George. The bar was very low but even if we had a decent commissioner before him, I think he’d still be an upgrade. He may not be able to have as big of an impact as he would like in the next two years, but I think we’re really going to like him in the long run.

One thing I took from the article is that the capital D capital B that preceded him left a S#!++y media rights contract to work through. Larry Fing Scott, the commissioner that keeps on giving (nothing).

I just don’t know about this guy. You don’t air out your dirty laundry to the college football world. You work behind the scenes on priorities and then talk about the progress ! It’s like Colonel Sanders coming out now and saying they use low grade, expired chicken parts and that the batter is just off the shelf / cheapest you can buy… but, it’s not my fault our special recipe sucks ! You are undermining every team in the Conference !

I knew you'd eventually come around There is more to this than just no bowl wins since 2019. The Pac 12 elitist mentality, the fact football simply isn't that important on the west coast, so mainly a fair weather sport rather than diehard addiction (see Nebraska). Many other reasons. But the talent is here, and the marketability on a national recruiting scale is here. So what's the story morning glory? All of which is somewhat resolvable. And its refreshing to see a guy running the conference that seems to counter the mindset of the typical Pac 12 president or board and even too many fans. Conference of Champions? Really? GTFO, in the big business that is NCAA sports, there is football, and then there is football. And way behind that is hoops. So pick your poison Pac 12 fan. If you want to be the Ivy league of the west coast, so be it. If you want to be remotely relevant in the national discussion of College Football, better reset your priorities and open your minds...and wallets. The MWC should never...ever...make a mockery of the Pac 12. That's how far this conference has fallen.

I honestly don't give a rats ass about the rest of the conference other than I root for whoever plays the above mentioned teams......is that an antiquated approach to today's big biz college football? Maybe, but I don't care. Im fine with a down pac 12 because we are building something that can last with Smith......and let's be honest, we will never be part of the "football" discussion when ur talkin big biz. I've said it over and over......we want to be Utah....consistency in our program......the opposite of what hole does. If we have consistently good seasons, the money, and better tv times will take care of itself.

Larry Fing Scott, the commissioner that keeps on giving (nothing). Larry Scott negotiated what was by far the biggest contract in college football history at the time. It was a great deal at the time. Problem was, it set the stage for the next several rounds of negotiations, and might have been for a bit too long of a time. If the new commissioner manages to negotiate another landmark deal, a bunch of people will do a couple hip-hip-hoorays until the next big conference has their turn, then many of those same people will start grumbling and as more an more conferences renegotiate the grumbling might turn to howling. That's the way of the world.

You are undermining every team in the Conference ! You don't air out your dirty laundry to the college football world, unless you are trying to throw Larry Scott under the bus. We have a problem. It is the last guy's fault. I will fix it. I can't tell how much of what George said is genuine, how much is heat that George is already feeling and how much of this is covering his backside, because he has been so tied up with about trying to negotiate a new playoff contract that he has done nothing to promote the conference and make sure that its member institutions do not embarrass themselves. The way that whole UCLA went down is a huge black eyeto the conference. Between Chip Kelly (fat chance), the higher ups at UCLA and the Pac-12, somebody needed to be the adult and get that thing sorted out, so that you did not screw over both the Holiday Bowl and NC State. And Wazzu played Central Michigan and got beat. Nothing about any of that. No, I could have done this or that or the other. No silver lining. Just throwing shade at Larry without mentioning him. The fact that he seems to have no plan other than wait out the current contract does not really assuage one of my two biggest concerns. And the fact that he seems to have no plan on expansion also raises red flags. Shooting from the hip, George is terrible and lacks any discernible leadership. Larry Scott was a dreamer that could not deliver on his grand vision, but I never doubted his leadership and I never doubted that he was working to try and promote the Pac-12 and improve the situation.
