At the scrimmage the other day looking at the west side that top deck sure looks steep. Hope its an illusion. Hate to have to walk to the top row.

Saw replay of the spring showcase. Toward the start in a summary of the new Reser construction, Yogi Roth stated the capacity will be “around 43,000”. That’s a higher capacity total than the ones I’ve heard tossed around. I hope he’s right.

That’s a higher capacity total than the ones I’ve heard tossed around. I hope he’s right. That would only be correct if they were allowing about 5K in standing room only in. With the design, they have the ability to sell some SRO, but not sure it's that high.

2022 Listed Capacity = 26,407 (this seems low since the civil war game had 28,840 attendance)
Capacity count that I saw somewhere in the plans at the start of construction (not final): New West Side Total = 8,890 West Side Lower Level = 2,917 West Side Loge Level = 674 West Side Upper Level = 5,299 (2,068 very top section, 3,200 lower section of top level) Total = 35,297 With ADA and standing room only, maybe it gets over 36,000. If the real capacity of the non-West side seats was actually 28,840, then new capacity would be closer to 38,000.
Also, according to original design plans, they are removing some rows in the East Side Club Level and adding rows of tabletops. It's a total loss of 884 seats replaced by 248 premium seats, for a net loss of 636 seats. Not sure if this is being done this summer or next year. Rows impacted would be the top row just below the suites and some rows at the top of the lower section just below the walkway.

Attendance includes players, officials, press box, etc. Not limited to just seats. That's why attendance often exceeds announced capacity.

If you go to google maps and click on Reser Stadium, there are some photos from the spring game that focus on the in-construction new stadium side. They are from David Fischer (I don't know who that is). Anyway, the photos don't look impressive to me. I wish there was a way to lengthen the upper levels. Obviously the top section but even the lower section of the top level. Integrating those with either the Valley football center or the southern end zone stands would be visually a significant upgrade. The photos left me with "nice little G5 stadium" thoughts. In addition, the roof or overhang appears very small. I'm not sure who is going to be protected from rain or September afternoon sun.

I'm wondering just how much "potential" expansion was cooked into the stadium design.
I've heard we can fit a few thousand more by adding wings, and I kinda wonder if not doing it up front is a penny-wise pound foolish thing. What they didn't do now will probably cost them 2-5 times as much a few years down the road if the Beavers get on a multi-year hot streak and more seating is desired.
It feels to me like the powers that be took a look at the GA and pandemic years and home TV competition and decided 38k is all we could ever hope for. We're actually not all that far removed from selling out a 42k stadium on most weeks... it could happen again... especially if the team is at or near the top of the conference a couple/few years in a row.
It'd be nice to know whether or not the 2nd level in the south end zone or anything beyond extending the wings on the west side is even possible if everything went well.

When the original expansion happened I remember reading an article about how the south endzone was built the way it was to make it easier to double deck it if needed.

Good luck with that since they built a medical facility in that end zone, the most ridiculous thing they could have done.

The larger stadium business model is out the window. It's smaller stadiums, with more premium seating. If we sell out they will likely just increase ticket prices. It will take a lot for them to consider a stadium expansion. Especially since the expansion would likely be lower revenue reserved seating and not "premium" seating. The construction costs versus the revenue increase from normal additional seating just doesn't pencil out without the luxury seats. That is especially true with adding a second deck in the end zone.

It helped fund the project and its inclusion helped sway some north-of-the-track naysayers.

Doesn't mean its not crazy place to put it. But whatever, the rich do what they want. What "rich" person wanted it located there? Money has nothing to do with it. It's the perfect place. No green space removed, no neighbors pissed off by construction/operation, plenty of adjacent parking, no need to add additional parking, and easy access from the majority of the dorms. And it's a place to show off on the tours for prospective students that will start in the west side welcome center. Parents of prospective students like amenities like the Health center so they know their kids will be taken care of it the need arises.
