Wow, almost the whole team is home grown in Iowa, plus a couple from Missouri. Seems really rare to see a team constructed like that anymore. Recruiting is so national and international. Whoa! I see that their leading rebounder (6-1 Freshman fwd Grace Boffeli, herself an Iowegian) grabbed 19 boards against Idaho.

Or maybe it's a struggle getting players from out of state to go to Cedar Falls, IA, where the average temperature between December and mid-March is below freezing. Maybe they should try recruiting in Siberia? I would certainly take a pass.

It appears they have 7 true freshmen. Don't know how many of those are in the rotation, so no idea how relevant that might be. My guess is that we win this game fairly easily, unless they get off to one of those starts where they're shooting way above their heads. Then we have to work and wear them down, but we still win. I don't expect us to shoot 53.3% on threes again, but anywhere between 35 and 39% should get it done. Incidentally, last game we were 53.3% on threes and 42.4% overall. Go figure.

Maybe they should try recruiting in Siberia? That's hardly the only campus located in a place that you might not want to hang out in winter. I'm not gonna look at everybody's rosters, but I can pretty much guarantee that all the teams from the Rockies and Midwest don't have their entire rosters made up off in-state players. It's definitely a unique situation for UNI.

How/when did it happen that Northern freakin Iowa “has the edge” over us??? Hurts my head.

If somebody wanted to make book on this game as pick 'em, I'd put down a sizable sum on the Beavs. We have 6 players on the roster who were top 100 recruits - hell, top 65; they have none. They are overmatched, plain and simple.

Those two factors negated our stars.

Those two factors negated our stars. True, but they were an experienced, good team, used to winning, knowing how to win, and believing they could win. They shot 41.8% against us, only team above 40 this year, and we won by 8.

Our freshmen, all 4 of them, are only going to get better with experience and it certainly looked like Téa is picking it up as well. There will still be growing pains but I hope they won't hurt as bad. We have 4 seniors, all grad transfers, but only 1 has much experience, and Taya is our sole junior. What we see now is not the same team as we will see at the end of the season.
This is the beauty of college ball, it is constantly changing. From season to season and within the season. As long as the ladies are playing hard I'll support them regardless of the score.

Kennedy is doing a nice job on defense. She seems quicker on her feet than I remember.

Kennedy is doing a nice job on defense. She seems quicker on her feet than I remember. When its Kennedy and Taya in there, especially against a team without much height like No. Iowa, the inside is just plain shut off. Also, what a great move it's been to start Tea and Talia at guard. Tea really learning the Beav system.

Nice tough rebound by Jelena and flip assist pass to Ellie for the point-blank layup!

I think we're discovering who our starting point guard should be. Talia keeps picking up her dribble too soon.

The Beavs are looking really good so far. They are learning their identity as a team and how they fit into it.
