Remember the old saying. ‘Be careful what you wish for. ‘ We knew for years that their tubby baseball coach sucked but they finally got one that could coach baseball. There is not a soul of this board that felt Crystal Balls could coach game time. He could recruit but his game management was high school level. So as much as we glee in all of this maybe they will get a guy that can coach players up? Time will tell. I think his poor coaching is overblown. Most head coaches don't call plays, it is the OC and DC. If they could have gotten visionary coordinators then they could have seen a great team. Alabama under Saban was not considered a great offensive team for many years until they got the right coordinator in. Just remember this team did almost win the Pac-12 with a roster of mostly Freshmen and Sophomores. I just don't seem them getting another guy with the pizazz of Cristobol to bring in all those 5 star guys in the future. I could be wrong. At worst, it will probably blow up their class this year.

I find it hilarious that Phil can buy anything and everything except the loyalty of the last two yuck coaches. You don't buy loyalty, big $$ purchases disloyalty. If it's only $ keeping you, then $ can convince you to leave. In any profession. At least in Mario's case his decision is completely understandable. He's going to make bank either way. But, Miami is HOME. His mother still lives there and is ailing. Wife is Florida girl. Kids get to be surrounded by grandparents, family. Don't really like the guy mostly because he doesn't fit NW vibe, Pac12's typical coach. However, the above tells me he's all about loyalty, and gets a great paycheck doing so. Just my take. Could care less who ucks hire. Phil's $$ and bling have shown to be the key factor in recruiting. Good coach, recycled, young... I'll always despise them on game days. Not give one rat's arse about them other days. OSU has its own inherit advantages and issues. That's all OSU and staff can control. Until we upgrade recruits and continue to improve development OSU's going to be struggling to be middle tier Pac12. Worrying, complaining, disparaging opponents is all a waste of breath. Fun at times. But, OSU needs to worry and take care of OSU.

Unless the HC dictates the playing style. Joe Moorehead was once regarded as an offensive wizard but did you see anything in the Duck’s vanilla offense to indicate that? I didn’t. Probably a good reason he left to take the Akron job.

Head coach, OC and DC all underachieved with numerous highly nationally ranked recruiting classes. Even though Phil bought the best, the best proved it was not even good enough to win the Pac12.

Understood and fair take. My issue is the $$$$ you refer to ! Sports, both athletes and coaches, are totally out of control. This is taking money away from the school budget's and the Students and fans . I love sports far more than the average OSU alum should - and I am not, personally, impacted by current ticket prices or donation levels . However, I have to take a bigger view and realize that we are spending big bucks on finishing the West Side, and that the escalation in pricing for many people - will create ongoing attendance issues and further revenue shortfalls . There is no broadcast experience that matches actual game attendance - but , that seems to be where we are headed . Another aspect to the rich get richer; and the sucks, Miami, USC and others will ( along with NIL deals ), eventually control the landscape in every conceivable way. The 'business model' is not looking favorable for small market University teams .

From official announcement ;
'According to sources, Cristobal had agreed to terms with UM on Sunday afternoon, and was waiting to tell his team Monday morning before an announcement was made'
No real speculation required ...get crushed Friday , visit on Saturday, sign on Sunday ( reported sooner / actually ).
Can't blame him given the personal circumstances , but maybe the ducks should hire someone that is not from a desirable locale . How about someone from Springtucky ?

I haven't researched the Miami football program that deeply and I do not follow it so I am wondering why you would fire a coach who has been over 500 the last two seasons and is over 500 overall ? He took them to two str8 bowls as well . Yes they lost those bowl games but what might be possible going into a 4th or fifth season ? Smith just got an extension and he is under 500 still after 4 seasons OSU had some faith in him that a total turn around is still coming to give him another 6 years . What happened to that faith in Manny Diaz ?

Oh and by the way , a 4 star QB recruit has already decommitted from the Ducks. Chips are falling

Regarding the ducks next hire - we have ALL Seen how Phil operates . He does not get mad, he gets even . I am still not concerned , because , when you look at RECRUITING, It seems that getting the Linemen ( OL and DL ), is the ticket to the promised land. When you look at where the elite linemen end up , it is with all the blue bloods. Yes MC got one or two elite guys , but the vast majority of these guys end up not sniffing the PAC 12.

If you read the Canzany article on Mario not signing the extension right away, it Makes me cringe that it’s public knowledge that the University had to run the decision of the extension by a booster! #owned

Same thing happened in Miami. One big booster stepped up to go after Cristobal. That's the world we live in.

Oh and by the way , a 4 star QB recruit has already decommitted from the Ducks. Chips are falling A number of Oregon commits reacted to the news of Cristobal’s departure. And sources tell On3’s Gerry Hamilton that at least two more prospects are expected to decommit soon.
