Fun fact: Oregon State lost the Pac-12 opener in 2020 and lost at home to Arizona by 34. And then the Beavers caught fire. There is still a lot left in the season. No reason to start playing Russian Roulette against the mirror.........yet. Caught fire? Weren't they 10-10 in league last year?

This mess will not turn out like last Year. Biggest difference is we lost 2 team leaders. Josh and Stephen. We have not replaced that. 3 assists? Are we kidding?

Definitely strange to see how this team has decinegrated to where they are right now. I don’t see them getting out it either......at best we will get a handful of wins. From an Elite Eight to last in the Pac is a big drop but that’s who we’ve become.....wish I was wrong

To answer the original poster, I would not. Natty? Definitely. Finals? Probably. Final Four? Not sure, but maybe. But not Elite Eight. But that this question is even asked says something about Tinkle. But the run was great and I’m very happy for Tinkle that it happened. Otherwise his epitaph would likely have been, Not Quite as Bad as the Previous 6 Coaches.

No reason to start playing Russian Roulette against the mirror.........yet. What kind of streak did the last Beaver team that started 1-7 go on? Slats Gill's 1950 team? That was Oregon State's second season in Gill Coliseum. The Beavers finished tied for fourth in the Pacific Coast Conference North. Oregon State was even worse in 1951-52. The Beavers improved in 1952-53 and won the North in 1954. Oregon State travelled to Long Beach to play USC in the Pacific Coast Conference Championship Game. The Beavers lost by three. The Pacific Coast Conference Championship Game was the equivalent of a Round of 32 game, because the Trojans, with the win, were given a Sweet Sixteen berth. USC went to the Final Four to basically play a road game against Bradley; the Braves won by two. Oregon State regressed in 1956-57 but started 1957-58 20-4. All the Beavers needed to do was beat Idaho in Moscow to win the Pacific Coast Conference and go to the Tournament. However, Oregon State lost to Idaho by seven. That set up a Pacific Coast Championship Game with California in Eugene, which the Beavers lost. The Bears went to the Elite Eight against Elgin Baylor's Seattle and lost in overtime. Seattle lost the Championship Game to Kentucky in Louisville. Oregon State regressed in 1958-59, improved in 1959-60 and regressed in 1960-61. And then the Beavers were an Elite Eight team in 1962 and a Final Four team in 1963.

At this point the only explanation is that WT spent some time in Mississippi prior to the Elite 8 run and worked out some sort of Robert Johnson type deal with the devil. Wonder if Wayne plays guitar now too?
Either way, he’s definitely giving me the blues.

Caught fire? Weren't they 10-10 in league last year? That video is why many of us our so baffled. Other than Ethan EVERY. SINGLE. GUY. on that team is back! I know Ethan was a very very good player, but he wasn't a generational talent. Not even sure I woudl call him great. And we brought plenty of talent in as well. Davis, Rand, Williams, all seem very talent, all have had good to great games off and on... So what is the deal?!?!?! As much as Wayne Tinkle gave himself a huge heaping of breathing room withe the eleite eight run last year, his performance this year has been incredibly disappointing. This failure to mesh and be a team is mostly on him, IMHO. How did we go through all of teh pre season practices and not figure out who teh starters and backups are, and not (seemingly) have learned any plays? The games I have been to / seen on TV we run a dozen (at least) lineups in and out, mixing and matching, for a few minutes at a time hoping one of them catches fire, no wonder the whole team is slumping. And there is no semblance of an offense. Defense usually lags behind when you have guys playing togther who are unfamiliar with each other, but the offense sucks too, smh. Sigh what a disappointment. HOWEVER, to answer the OP question.... YES! I take three bad years for an elite eight run! I mean we had how many bad years in the last 20? 18 at least? With only 1 brief NCAA apperance to show for it! So if last year means we suck terribly this year, or even teh next three? Sign me up, especially if the fith year we get to go back to the eleite eight and start the process again

I know people didn't always like his game, but he was a glue guy and he had some basketball IQ on the floor, something lacking this year.

If anything he was a liability most of teh time last year. Watch that video again, I saw him ONCE in teh video and it was a bad dribble drive late in the shot clock, he somehow shovelled the ball to Ethan and Ethan bailed out teh possesion with a great, but high difficulty mid range shot. I get it, I understand Basketball is a game were flow, coordination, "glue guys", and repetition matters. Which is why teh constant lineup shuffle game Tinkle has played in all eight games so far this year is so frustrating to watch! How can the team find the glue guy when no one gets a chance to settle down and any missed shot means you might be looking over at teh scorers table for your replacement? The starters aren't immune. Tinkle yanks Lucas with a single bad shot, but thats what colume scorers do, that take a bunch of shots, many of them only so-so, but they get hot and make enough of them to make up for it. Sigh, even in 2016-17 we won 4 non conference games, smh....

He also did a lot of things besides scoring. How often did he slide in and draw a charge. Sometimes it's the little things that help pull a team together and honestly I'm not seeing a lot of those this year.
