If you had been asked before last season that the Beavers were going to go on a late season run and make it to the Elite 8, but that the price for this was that the next few seasons, let's say 3, you are stuck watching bad basketball and a losing team. Would you have taken that deal?
For me, I am not sure. But in reality, that is probably the situation we are in....

Would you have taken that deal? For me, I am not sure. But in reality, that is probably the situation we are in.... While this sucks right now, my answer is yes. Being fortunate enough to be in Vegas and Indy for both tournaments was a once in a lifetime experience for me in many ways. There will never be another NCAA tournament played entirely in one city like that again (at least I certainly hope not), and being able to be around that many college basketball fans from so many different places while the Beavs were doing their thing was a freaking blast. I wasn't even born yet the last time OSU won an NCAA tournament game, so to be a part of that in some capacity was special to me.
Obviously for many people the answer will probably be different since 99.9% of the fan base were watching from home rather than in person. But for me that is easily my #1 OSU sports experience and even if we suck this year or next year or even the year after that, I'd be hard pressed to say I would trade that Elite 8 away for more success now (unless of course it meant more NCAA tournament success).

"...the price for this was that the next few seasons, let's say 3, you are stuck watching bad basketball and a losing team..." Having watched the Beavs play since the early 1980s before the dark ages, 3 years of bad losing basketball doesn't register. Sadly, I'm just about numb at this point. My 1980s younger self would be amazed at my apathy, because I had such a great time at Gill - getting tickets when I could in high school, and then hardly missing a game in 4 years while getting my degree.

I loved watching the run last year. Great excitement! I was proud of the team and they looked scrappy and proud of themselves! Really hard to give up that magic, even if it is to avoid a few bad seasons.
But what I don’t understand is how we are not able to build upon our successes of last year. Why don’t we have better players? Why aren’t they running the offense better? Why aren’t they pushing to make noise again? Why don’t they play with a chip on their shoulders? Why aren’t they trying to prove it wasn’t a fluke?
It’s frustrating as a fan.

I had finished a Jubel and went on a tangent just remembering the fun. And last year was fun too. End of rambling thoughts (wanders toward fridge...).

The Orange Express teams weren't just good, they were great. Yeah, they generally bombed out in the NCAA tourney. But it was an amazing atmosphere. They were number 1 in the nation for 6 weeks! Every game was sold out and the atmosphere was electric. People camping out to get the best seats. They were the talk of the town, the state and even the basketball nation. Ralph built a great program. No one, I mean no one thought that it would come crashing down like it did. How did one of the best programs in the country become one of the worst in just a few short years? Don't answer, it is too depressing.

As time goes on the run last year will seem like a dream. We are back to the reality of sparse crowds, low energy losing basketball and patiently waiting for the next coach and the promise of better times ahead.

We are back to the reality of sparse crowds, low energy losing basketball and patiently waiting for the next coach and the promise of better times ahead. The sparse crowds never really stopped even when the team was winning more games... Last year's squad probably wouldn't have drawn that many people if fans were allowed either. And judging by football attendance this year I'm not sure even if the basketball team was 7-1 instead of 1-7 if there'd be more than 5-6k for Arizona this weekend.
Save GP2's senior year maybe and the Civil War game every year, Gill has never really been full or close to full. It's unfortunate because in a smaller arena like Gill it doesn't take THAT many people to make it electric. Tough to say how many people will show up the rest of the year, couldn't blame anyone for staying home at this point.

Fun fact:
Oregon State lost the Pac-12 opener in 2020 and lost at home to Arizona by 34.
And then the Beavers caught fire.
There is still a lot left in the season. No reason to start playing Russian Roulette against the mirror.........yet.

No reason to start playing Russian Roulette against the mirror.........yet. I'd LOVE to believe you're right, Wilky I dunno. EFFORT is.....LACKING. I don't know. I watch like Alatishe, Calloo, Davis, Lucas and Rand, and I love the effort. I watch Hunt and Silva and I hate what I see. Also, watching Lucas dribbling more than twice in a row, and I hate what I see, as well. If Hunt or Silva could be more of a consistent offensive threat, then I think that you could see everyone else improve around them. Cooking analogy. I don't think that it is the ingredients. It's the proportions. I think that all of the ingredients are there, but it just has not come together yet. Maybe I am just a hopeless optimist, though. I kept thinking that Canham had enough parts and pieces to win the Fort Worth Regional a couple of months ago, and that did not pan out.
