CSUB's 6-1 post player kinda had her way. 14 on 7-11. She scored on Jones, Brown and Mitrovic. She was in foul trouble, I'm sure that prevented her from doing more damage. She played very well. Not at all intimidated by the height differential. Used her body to get good position and paid it off.

I don't think I'd heard that Adams played w/ Mik in HS. Her dad is former Seahawk Sam Adams. If I heard that right, he coached Tea's AAU team for 7 years and Mik was on it? Ah, okay. I knew I heard they were teammates.

Leading up to the season, Taylor could be heard saying it was going to be very difficult for anyone to score inside against our team. Instead, I see that as our greatest vulnerability. Any time an opposing post gets the ball inside against us, with our post BEHIND her, that post ALWAYS has an easy shot. Whether it's fake one way and lay it in the other way, or jab step and fall-back 4-footer, we cannot stop it. Our posts are useless on defense against a big post. Have we ever considered denying them the ball inside? Front their post or get beside her with a hand in the way of the pass? Naz Hillmon of Michigan will score at will against us, the same way the SCar post (Aliyah Boston) had her way with us. And there's something wrong with how we're play D on their other players, too. I don't remember ever seeing so many times the other team got a step on our player and got an easy layup. The defense took a huge step forward today. All of our guards were fighting over screens and I heard the girls calling out screens today. CSUB's center was a load, and skilled. Taylor and Jelena didn't defend as well, but you might remember that Taylor came out in the 2nd half and capped their center's shot. Kennedy's defense was solid in the post. BTW, we will see multiple players guard Naz Hillmon starting with Taya. Taya is playing unbelievable defense right now. 1 superstar player on the other team isn't going to beat OSU. It will take a solid team effort from Michigan and Notre Dame to beat OSU. Coaching staff has incredible depth as well and we really don't have a drop-off with substitutions.

Hard not to be an AJ fan after watching this early season unfold.

Tea is back for this game. Tea and Deven took a knee for the anthem. Which is an implicit suggestion that they think that America is a racist nation and that we need to be reminded of our legacy of guilt? I thought we were over that crap. Or you could settle down and let people express themselves. All this time I thought it was a TEAM game. Good for one or all??

My takes-
Greta/AJ- They seem pretty good. Shoot, pass, rebound, defend. Yeah, they seem pretty good.
Taya- She has really decided to step up her game this year. Her next test is to see how she does against Hillmon.
Talia- So far she's having a hard time shooting from beyond 5' from the basket, otherwise a good game. Although her teammates bobbling her passes made a little less than it should have been.
Taylor- Last season she kept getting in foul trouble. This season she dialed it down so much that everyone and their grandma can score on her inside. Need to do more fine tuning on that defensive setting.
KB- Keeps getting better. We will see how she and Taya do against Hillmon if she plays.
Ellie- Still cold from outside but otherwise doing just fine.
Mit- Someone needs to teach Mit how to hunker without fouling. Too many shrimps moving her around.
Mannen- Once again, steady game.
Emily- Heads up play. She's a tough gal.
Tea- Great passes, slap your forehead passes. I suspect she gets too down on herself sometimes and she finds it hard to literally and figuratively to pick herself up.
Team- Right now they have a lot of great players who don't always play a great team game. The ball doesn't move around very well on offense and they don't switch off very well on defense. But they seem to be getting better at it.
Yesterday I would have said they'd beat Michigan because of their interior defense. Now? ....I'm worried.

What if they were just trying to say that Black Lives Matter? Because, you know, for decades (centuries in fact) black Lives DID NOT matter to many folks in this nation. img.auctiva.com/imgdata/1/6/0/4/5/4/4/webimg/1096034721_o.jpgbtw, Tea Adams was the team leader in assists in today's game. Beaver's WBB team really NEED her this season since our starting PG is new in that role as a D-1 WBB player. As for Deven, she is the 4th all time leading rebounder at OSU in WBB history, and was an academic All-American in her Senior year on the team...and has earned an advanced degree since her days as a student in Corvallis. I think I'll leave it up to THEM as to how they express themselves pre-game.

Hillmon isn't the only good interior player they are about to face, Westbeld from Notre Dame is also notable.

I didn't get to watch the 2nd half very well as there were major distractions going on. The game was on, but I will be the first to say I couldn't tell you much about 2nd half play.
With that in mind, the Beavs have more depth than I ever remember them having, but I'm not seeing a lot of good 'team' play from the Beavs. Cal Baptist really played well as a team. They played well together passed the ball around quickly and shot the 3 decently. Had they been able to rebound, they may have won that game against the Beavs.
SR was right to pull Talia early today. Someone mentioned that she was thinking too much, but I lean toward her not thinking enough. To me, it looks like she is trying to rely too much on her individual talent, which can be awesome much of the time, but can also cause problems when she is guarded well, or when she finds herself in too deep with only the choice of taking a tough shot, or getting the ball out to someone else while there are several hands around her. She needs to lean on team talent, and not just her talent. Don't get me wrong, she's a star in the making.
If I had to choose where the Beavs have looked weakest so far, it would be between post defense and what I would call overall team play. Getting to know each other well enough that passing becomes crisper, screen play becomes stronger, and a solid lineup is formed. This should develop as the season goes along. Three games in, and the opposing post has played well against the Beavs at moments in every game. Maybe this is all a trick to keep Michigan from knowing how we will defend them, but I fear it is deeper than that.
On the positive side Talia, Greta, and AJ are really making the 2021 recruiting class look good. AJ has been most unexpected. The Beavs (Taya in particular) have been a monster on the boards. The number of offensive boards is eye popping. Team depth is outstanding. Mannen has already done more than expected. Kennedy has looked good in the early going. Lots of talent. I'm interested in seeing how things play out for this team.

I think the whole team looked great in the passing, shooting and defensive actions. My only surprise was seeing the TEA apparently does not like to shoot the ball - but she is very good at finding the open shooter and getting everyone to their preferred position on the court ! AJ & Greta and Talia are lethal and are only getting better!

And that makes 2 of us as I basically missed the whole game due to family distractions----I much prefer the evening games. I'm hoping thickhead or beavsteve was able to get a copy of the game and posts a link for us to watch!
